IDK.. Its like calling the car a Z28 and then having a Camaro tagged Z28 as well. Just doest seem right to me. If they call it a Chevy SS then that should get rid of the SS names on other models since SS is now its own car.
Whats the non High performance model called?

he means the high performance camaro will be the ss. this car will only be sold in a high performance model known as the ss. if they do come out with a model like mike was saying and its supercharged i wouldnt be surprised if they took a page out of Holdens book and call it the SS-V or SS-Z although i kinda like the sound of SS-SC

i don't see this as a 'halo' car. the vette is that. the V series is. to a lessor degree the ZL1 is.

a bunch of the people i regularly see on xbox are from australia and they say the commodore is a total piece of crap and that the car is being discontinued as of 2014. and that some people will throw the chevy badges onto the car to try and get respect.
i would have no problems with an austrialian car coming here as that an austrialian car. but its majorly screwed up that the only thing gm can think to do is bring a car here from another country put their own badges on it rename it and claim it as an american car. they need to get their head out of their asses and start designing and building actual american cars here.

What I have read makes it seem like they plan to sell the VF Commodore through 2015 or 2016, then replace it with a global GM platform that will also be called Commodore. Sales of the Commodore have slumped some recently but since 2008 they have averaged ~42,500 Commodores sold in Australia each year, including a dip to only 30,532 last year when everyone knew a refresh was coming.
This car was designed from the beginning to be sold as a Chevy here. It's not like they are buying cars from another company and rebadging them, GM has owned Holden since 1931. Holden is just another GM brand, just isn't one of the 4 that is sold in the US. I'm all about the US auto industry (all 8 vehicles I've owned were from the big 3, and only 1, my '91 Lumina was built outside the US, in the Oshawa plant), but in order to keep costs down GM will have to rely at least partially on design and manufacturing from their brands in other countries, and I have no problem with that.

I get your point, but I dunno if it matters much.
Because all the new GTOs were actually Tempest GTOs, right?
Same with the 78+ Malibus? They are Chevelle Malibus? Cool, I drive a Chevelle.
Oh yeah, and don't forget the Novas. They were originally Chevy II Novas. Hell, mine is one. So I guess I drive 2 of the 3 cars that fit the bill.

There was a 1981 Bel Aire. I found that out yesterday and threw up in my mouth a little

Oh, a bunch of people on xbox said that the Commodore is a piece of crap. Well, that settles it.

LOLWUT? So GM can't bring cars to America if they are made in other countries? Please tell that to Ford and Chrysler.

VF will last another 3-4 years, but the Commodore has lost retail market share to smaller cars over the last few years due to the increase in fuel prices. Commodore is still one of the best selling cars in Australia, and that says a lot. Ford has lost a lot of market share with the Falcon, which is why Ford plans on killing that off very soon and replacing it with the next-gen Taurus.
The debate for the next Commodore rages on. GM/Holden could do what Ford is doing and use an NG Impala for down under and Holden would like to make it locally, whatever it turns out to be. Rumors of them using Alpha pop up here and there, but that's going to be an expensive venture for them to make a small number of cars using that chassis.

Chevrolet and Holden will be sharing the same design themes. If you look at Holden's line up, it consists of just about all the cars Chevrolet has up until Malibu.
GM is a company that makes cars around the world, but only they are stupid/lazy/dumb/non-American if they use that to their advantage. I love you guys.

All the 04-06 GTO's were tempest? I dont know about that one. Didnt realize GM had a Tempest in 04-06.
Like I said before its like naming a car a Z28 or a WS6. To me it just doesnt sound right.

Based on what he's saying in the rest of his post, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that WildBillyT is being sarcastic.

Yep, being sarcastic.
I was pointing out that GM has taken a trim level and turned it into a model 3 times already, maybe even more. It's not that big a travesty as everybody makes it out to be. Been done before. Yeah, "SS" carries more weight than "GTO", "Malibu" and "Nova", but all the names are iconic in their own right.
I personally feel that a RWD V8 Chevrolet deserves the SS moniker, and if it's as its full name then so be it.
I feel that the real travesty is throwing the SS badge on FWD econoboxes and non-V8 trucks.
Case in point:
Yes, they named this "SS"
With its RWD 400hp V8.
In my opinion it deserves it as a "full name" better than this did as a "trim level":
With 180hp of pure V6 fury and a body kit.

they had a truck called the 454 ss as well. been done as a trim level on a chevelle, turned into a model of a truck.
back on topic. i think everyone understands gm bringing cars from around their worldly line up to america. i think the problem is that everyone was excited how gm built up the reveal of this car. that by the time they actually did reveal it, the reveal flopped. especially in press photos and reveal color. not only that, but after 4 years of waiting for this car to make its way back to america....we get a rental car version of it instead. instead of something badass looking. i mean really its not hard to clean that up a bit. give it an aggressive cowl style hood and clean up the grille and lose the cheap looking audi led's in the bottom turn signals.
win.

You and Al would be a awesome debate, neither one of you budges from your thoughts.
I think you are being a little harsh, GM needs to streamline themselves before they start making "odd" cars again. So while you would care that this will be a SS and perhaps ruin the image of the SS, the mass consumer that will actually buy this car, has no ****s to give about the heritage or that BS.
If GM catered to the views of this site, they would have a line up of gutted, RWD, fast cars that no one buys. And a diesel colarado, that would sell like hot cakes
