The Lt1 had to many problems with ait bubbles being trapped casuing hot spots. It also Inneficiently cooled one head more the the other. This causing the motor more likely to have head gasket failures. It wasnt a bad decide juts needed some kinks out if it

Never said hot laping was good obviously its not if the car doesnt get to cool. I could remember numerous trips to Etown when I had my 97z w/ my buddy in his 99ss in hot/ humid weather. It effected my times alot more then his.

I've heard the air bubble thing but never really took it serious cause there are two bleeders for the LT1 that have always worked pretty well for me and figured most of these causes of damage happening where people not knowing how to properly bleed a cooling system anyway. Never heard the one head more than the other thing though, don't see how thats possible but interesting stuff.

like matt said, aluminum is ftw. It gets hot faster, but it has less mass to cool in the end, and it has a higher specfici heat. Im still sure i could get that car to run a 12.9 or 12.8. I doubt that anyone who has run it had a lot of practice before hand. Give it a few months and they will run better and better times lol

+1, if you don't know what your doing, you can really screw up your engine. And LT1s have a coolant crossover tube for bubbles, so I dunno what your talking about...
And formula, I thought I was the only one who had heard of GM stealing someones work and then being called on it, hence ending the LT1's days...

Ive heard and knew other problems i just forget them we talked about in my College classes. I also did report on it. All i know is all my buddies LTs always ran hotter then my LS

LOL,I disagree again, my LT1 runs cooler than my friends LS1. But whatever, apples and oranges...
And you want you engine oil to be hotter than your engine coolant. I believe.

The running temp of the vehicle (under the super high LT1 224 stock low fan kick on) and the times it runs hot lapping are not the same unless I missed something or you meant something else in which case sorry. Also ability to run hot then cool itself quickly or moderate running at a hotter temp without overheating is a more efficient cooling system IMO but eh, this is not another LS1 vs LT1 thread I hope. As for the new camaro ,I have to agree those wheels do look super heavy but I think we will see them hitting mid 12's once the keys are tossed to someone who is a decent driver. Mags and online testers always get slightly higher numbers than a car is capable of, some mags don't even put up the best 1/4 time the car ran, rather they put up a average of multiple runs in different directions.

ive hot lapped mine and always went faster or stayed the same. and there really wasnt much difference in my 60's either. ive never run slower from hotlapping, but ive run a lil faster after i let it cool down. but not a 1/2 second lol.
in that video the guy said there was a 10-15mph headwind and the DA was +2000' that would explain the crappy et and mph

They ran a suck-ass time. If C&D and MT are running 13.0's, and places like Edmunds.com are hitting 13.0, you show up and run a 13.5? What, was Alex driving?

I'm pretty sure C&D and most major magazines don't actually run the cars on a 1/4 drag strip. I believe they go by a G-Meter

Many of them run their tests on old airstrips and other such areas. I think they use basic timing equipment...there always seems to be some sort of timing equipment setup behind the car in some magazine photos. I guess the only way to find out for sure would be to ask.

add a few hundred pounds, big low profile tires, insane houston heat/humidity, and the fact that the car has about 25 miles on it and isn't broken in yet

.....No kidding thats what weve been talking about since the thread started. Never remember anybody running bad times in LS1's and blaming it on the car "not being broken in". If they felt the car wasnt broken in yet they shouldnt have ran it...same goes for the weather...otherwise all it adds to is a list of excuses.
