1800 is not a lot at all for body work and paint, top of the line paint after buying the primer, base, reducers, etc would come to at least that price alone, plus labor, what brand paint is it? dupont, glasso, ...? are they baking it? single or two stage paint? factory color? jams? i dont mean to be a ball buster but for 1800 no shop around here would even bother looking at a car in that situation.

Besides, if it's not a looker, at least it can be a sleeper. Of course, both the paint and performance together are great for the total package appeal, but realistically, it's usually best to put the money towards making sure it runs like a champ continuously first. And if you really do think after a paint job that is as expensive as the one you're getting, that it's gonna get scratched when you install a cam, for the love of god, install the cam with the yucky paint. or at least protect the new paint with a tarp or something. Sorry, i'm done my rant. that's just two cents and the way I see it, but it's your car, and your money, not mine. Good luck.

dont worry about it. i was delivering in my camry when i was 14 up until i got my liscence and i turned out fine.
anyways. i vote waiting on the paint just so you dont have to worry about scratching it up when you do engine work and having to leave it outside. besides, you really think your not gonna change your mind about colors, accessories and other effects on the car when your older? when i was 14 my dream car was a land rover. then i drove one when i was 15 and hated it. just my opinion

soiunds like he's grounded for spending mom's money before telling her how much it was going to be. he was only supposed to be going after an estimate, but the guy hooked him with the "presumptive close" and asked him for the keys. pretty ****** thing to do to a 14 year old, and the paint shop had better make damn sure they are going to get their money before they get started. just my humble opinion.
i'm actually glad to know you are not driving around at 14. when i was your age, yeah, we messed around and joyrode mom&dad's cars, but the laws weren't the same. you can get screwed in more ways than one for driving without a license/registration/insurance (like 10 points, thousands of dollars in fines and court costs and then the insurance company will stick their hand in your pocket, too) - and then pray like hell that you don't get into an accident or anything.

do you get in trouble for the burn outs, i aint gonna do any around the house any more, my dad said its up to you but if the neighbors call ur ****ed and its ur problem not mine, this also might because my last few burn outs involved smoke traveling through the neighborhood for 10 minutes. hehe

how the hell did you do that???
and why are you painting you car now, when it will be another 2 1/2-3 years before you can drive it around...by that time, your fresh paint job won't look like you want it to...if you were smart you would slowly work on you car, build it up, then a month before you get your license, paint the car and what not, then roll into school and have all the ladies staring...
and no more of this joy-riding BS...you make on mistake, and you aint driving until your 21...let all your friends risk it, it ain't worth it
