I dunno, I like the Starland. It usualy sounds good, a lot of shows are on the cheap side, and its general adminssion. Compared to anything else in the area, what's markedly better?

Aye cap'n. Seen Judas Priest and Slayer there.
Birch hill was kinda cool while it was around... I loved the atmosphere of it being so tiny. Never far from the stage.

Well, technically Birch Hill is still there....you just have to be over 55 to get in now, though.

That is what I like about Starland (and it is 30 minutes from me vs Roseland which is now over an hour). I've seen Mastodon, Buddy Guy, Velvet Revolver, Twisted Sister and many others there.
At Rosland I've seen Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes, Jeff Beck, and others.
Stone Pony can be good too. I saw Leslie West (Mountain) there a year or so ago.
Birch Hill? Damn. I haven't heard that name in a few years. I saw Ace Frehley there.

For me those distances are reversed... remember I'm right next to NYC
Off the top of my head I've seen In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Blind Guardian, and Symphony X at Birch Hill. I know for a fact there's more but we're going back 5+ years here... that's a quarter of my life

Stupid youngster.
I saw Iron Maiden at Hammerstein Ballroom a few years ago, when Dickinson rejoined. That place ain't bad. Roseland is better.

thats because you dont like the same types of bands that usually play starland. you wont find people lounging around at a hardcore show
