Great game, Roger Clemens did a horrible job out there on the mound, but I commend him for giving an effort. I was falling asleep on my couch whenever the Indians got up to hit, but I woke up just in-time to see Johnny Damon smash that amazing home-run to take the lead. Chamberlain had me on edge most of the night, was very happy when he came out after doing a semi-good job. So glad they pulled through and one. Hopefully they win tonight, watching the game as we speak. Jeff.

Oh well, better luck next year. I think this marks the end of the "Empire Era". It was a good era for the Yanks too;

1996 - 2007

4 World Series titles

6 American League Pennants

11 American League East Division titles

13 consecutive Post Season appearances (including 1995)

1173 - 767 Regular Season record

With so many players now free agents, including;

Posada,
Pettitte,
Mariano,
A-Rod (player option),
Clemens,
Abreu,
Molina,
Villone,
Vizcaino, and
Mientkiewicz,
and lets not forget the Yanks screwing Bernie before the season,
and Steinbrenner saying yesterday that Torre is not coming back,
I'd expect to see a very different team next year. Let's hope it's a good one, as next year will be the final year for Yankee Stadium. It would be nice to win one more in "The House That Ruth Built".

ok since the season is over, here is what the Yanks should do...i did this in my franchise in MLB2k7...get younger!!! First two signings i did, Dontrelle Willis and Scott Kazmir(both free agents as we speak)...two YOUNG hard throwing lefties that have tons of potential, they just need to be on a winning team...this means having to say goodbye to Petitte and Clemens...also we can sign Mo for one more year, so we can get Joba ready to take over as closer...i say we let Abreu go and move Matsui to right field, we have Shelly Duncan and Sardinha ready to pick up the slack...plus i really hop A-Rob renews his option...now Posada is the only issue I see...he still has decent pop in his bat, but defensively he is not too great anymore...and if Torre does go, I think they should give Bobby Valentine a call...no matter what some people say, I think he a great manager and would fit the Yankees style perfectly...

Bobby Valentine? No way, he is crazy. Why not Davey Johnson? Gee, why not Larry Bowa? Just not Don Mattingly. I’d hate to see him follow the Torre era. You never want to be the guy that follows the big winner – you have no where to go but down. I like Mattingly too much.

Dontrelle Willis and Scott Kazmir (both free agents as we speak)... – No. IIRC, they are arbitration eligible. That means trade. And Willis stunk it up this year. Big time.

Trade all of Trenton (the team, the stadium, the city, all of it) for the Twin’s Santana - F/E eligible after next season & the twinkies can't resign him.

Let Abreau go – a $16m option is too high. If you can bring him back cheap, ok. Else maybe Torri Hunter is out there, or Aaron Rowan. But even Hunter's skills have eroded. Move the melk man to RF or trade for good pitching.

If they can give away damon or giambi it woud be good.

Pettite (his choice, not the teams, BTW player option), Mo & Posada need to come back. I think Posada is a year away from being the everyday 1B.

Here's all the problems now;

Steinbrenner said Torre is out. A lot of the players are on Torre's side and said they'll walk if Torre goes. I bet a lot of the older players that have a history with NY will be among those walking, including Posada, Clemens, Pettitte, Mariano, etc.

It's been the front office screwing things up since the beginning of the 2004 season. After 03, we lost most of our pitchers, except Moose. Their big idea from 04 to 05 was to sign a string of washed up pitchers for a rediculous amount of money. The big trifecta was Wright, Brown, and Pavano. Pavano is by far the worst. Why he is still getting paid is ludicrous. He pitched TWO games this year, ZERO last year, and 17 in 05. He keeps saying that he's hurt, but behind closed doors he says that he doesnt feel like pitching and keeps collecting paychecks. Then Wright who was also hurt for forever, and brown, who hurt himself by breaking his hand on a wall. Then we had Contreras, Loaiza, and a string of bad pitching descisions. The good ones that were made were destroyed by over using them to the point where they were permanently injured and wouldn't pitch again as well. Such as in 04 with the QuanGorMo plan. They used Quantrill so much that year that he burnt his arm out. But the good pitchers that did great were let go. Leiber, El Duque, Small, and a few others picked up the slack that year and were rewarded with a trade somewhere else, most of them to Philly. I think it's quite amusing that all of the pitchers that NY fired after 04, went on to win the World Series with the White Sox the very next year (El Duque, Vazquez, Contreras, Loaiza, and I think one or two relievers).

What NY needs to do is establish a pitching staff. Since 2003, every year the team averages a 60% change over in the players. They never get time to settle in and get used to playing as a team before more trades are made. I think we finally have a few young pitchers that can hopefully stay for a while and develop, such as Chaimberlain, Kennedy, and Hughes. I also think NY needs to look for a closer to work under Mo to eventually take his place. He's an amazing pitcher, but he's been sliding for four years now and he's not getting any younger. Borowski with Cleveland is a free agent after this year, and Lidge will be healthy again next year. They did good over the last two seasons with young position players with Melk, Cano, and Duncan. A few pitchers to look at are; Clement who's now healthy, Colon from Anaheim, Garcia from Philly (he has a lot of potential), Affeldt, and Rogers as starters. Timlin from Boston and Julio from Colorado are good relievers to look at.

The next problem is who to resign and who to let go.

Abreu has shown that he is very consistant and not injury prone. 16 mil is a lot, but drop Pavano and look to trade Damon and you have that money freed up right there.

Damon is a good player, but is prone to injury and can be very streaky. Another possibility for Center Field is Andruw Jones who was released from Atlanta. Two more outfield prospects are Hinske, and Green from the Mets.

Next is A-Rod. The organization has been trying to get rid of him for a while. He is a great player, but has a lot of clubhouse shenanigans. The Yankees dont want to deal with it anymore. A few teams are offering him a lot of money, like the Cubs, but I seriously cant see Panella tollerating A-Rods behavior. I also cant see him going to Detroit as Lelland wont deal with it either. I can however see A-Rod fitting in nicely with the White Sox. Guilen is a young energetic manager and A-Rod's bat on that team would be deadly. You'd have A-Rod, Thome, Dye, Konerko, Pierzynski, Uribe, and Fields. There arent too many free agents at 3B, but Mike Lowell will be available.

As injury prone as Giambi has been, I might keep him as the DH and look for a full time 1B.

Catcher will be pretty good in terms of negotiations. There are a lot of good catchers up this year so look for possibilities with I-Rod, Kendall, Ausmus from the Astros, Lo Duca from the Mets, Javy Lopez, and do I dare say it? Mike Piazza.

neg on both of you.

joba will be a starter

and dont trade melky.

rotation will be younger just by staying in house.

ian kennedy, joba, phil hughes, wang, and chase wright, or kei igawa or any number of the guys that made starts this year will have another year under their belts.

resign mo, and have enwar ramierez, and the guy from this years scranton team that they say was almost as good as joba, karstens

concentrate offseason signings on RELIEF PITCHING

resign menkavich they have enough softball bats and need a gold glove 1b
resign jorge, the pitching is too young to have a new catcher
convince arod to stay.

middle infield is perfect

melky in center
jonny and matsui share left/dh/utility outfield
find an impact defensive right fielder

that leaves the everyday dh spot open for a "george free agent" and sets them up with a TOP defensive lineup and an offencive lineup that wont lose much from this year

They could use Piazza as a utility catcher, using him on day games after a night game, and as a DH/PH. Pudge would have been pretty good, but Kendall, Lopez, and Ausmus are still good prospects.

None of the cathers listed are an improvement over Jorge. None. A. Jones also stunk it up this season. I'd rather have hunter or rowan. Get me back to the paul oneil types.

i agree 100% with you mike. and posada had the best year of his career why look to dump him. they will be alright w/inhouse players they have. willis would be an good adddition although he had a crappy year. pavano, mussina, clemens got to go!! pettite i'd try to get for another year.

AND W/OUT ALEX WHERE WOULD THE YANKS HAVE BEEN THIS YEAR!!
he alone carried that team in april although he did'nt hit much in the playoffs without him ...sorry they don't even make post season. and i think it is time for torre to leave.

It's amazing how the opinion of A-Rod has changed in NY. EVERYONE wanted him gone after last year. If he wasn't on the team this year, forget it...we'd be right down there with Tampa Bay and KC for the worst records. He's finally settled in as a Yankee. Whatever it takes to keep him, give it to him!
