I usually leave the car locked while at work, but at home it's sitting in the driveway with the windows down during daylight hours. At night I close it up but I'll leave it unlocked if I plan on going out later. When my 69 Camaro convertible was my daily driver I left it unlocked so people wouldn't try cutting the top to break in. Convertible tops are expensive to replace. And pet rocks are bred to jump through car windows! Just don't leave anything in the car in plain sight and you should be fine. Oh yeah, leave your pet rock on the seat and see if it deters the thieves!

i agree. i was not always a law-abiding citizen, and i used to ransack open cars in the mall parking lot. one night we must have hit a bait car, because no sooner did we both sit down, there was the screech of tires and lights as the cops swarmed us. there was a serious drop off into the woods past the guard rail that we didn't know about but we both survived the tumble and the cops gave up the search after about an hour.
so i always lock my car. not that there is anything worth snatching, but if they are just cruising for spare change or whatever it would be a pain in the ass to replace (probably $20 between the coin holder and cup holder). not to mention the cds and what-not.

so LOCK YOUR DOORS NO MATTER HOW NICE OF A NEIGHBORHOOD YOU LIVE IN!!!!!!!!
|
I was speaking with an Edison Police officer last week and he told me that quite a few peoples cars in the neighborhood were robbed. Mainly those who left there doors unlocked. And a few got there windows smashed just for giggles. So keep your doors locked and keep an eye out for people who dont belong in the neighborhood. There are also a few home invasion burglers going around as well targeting mainly the Asian and Indian houses. Wont be long before they get braver and target anyone so people be careful.

Leaving anything unlocked is inviting anyone in with the cajones to try it.

THAT WAS YOU?!
Just kidding.
Very common crime. The bottom line is this: Lock your doors, but whether you do or you don't, DO NOT leave your GPS, cell phones, iPod, laptop computers, purses, wallets, or anything of value in your car unattended, whether it's in plain view or not. You'd be amazed how many people leave these items in their cars and then wonder how they get stolen.

1) it's not like locking/unlocking the car takes effort... not locking it IMO kinda says, hey, i don't give a crap about the security of my possession
2) Ask the police if they'll pay me to use my mercedes as a bait car
