Everyone is so negative. This should be a good car. The only real question is the powertrain and will it deliver. Ford has had issues with its DCT, as did VW when it first brought it out.
6+ gears for a small, low torque engine can do a little hunt-and-peck for gears. I can just imagine the 9spd in this thing. Realize that it is 3 more gears than a Cruze or Focus or any other car in its class?
It has FIVE more gears than a Corolla!! FIVE!

In Fords defense most of their transmissions are crap. How much do you think the extra gears add to the cost of the car? How much more likely is it for a broken trans? How much does that affect a rebuild cost? That's just some of the stuff in my head. I hope the extra 3mpg is worth it..

 | Yeah, that was my point.

I get that you can get crazy MPGs with triple overdrives or run a very low final drive with short 1-3 gears, but wow... 9? What's next, dual speed rear axles in pickups?

 | Dual speed rear axles in big trucks is genius and does a lot. I'd rather see that than a 47 speed transmission.

 | But VW really ironed it out and it is amazing from what I hear. I also have heard that much of the complaints about the Ford are that people are simply just not used to it. I wish I had a Focus to drive and check out for myself.

The Big 3 can no longer look to be behind the 8 ball when it comes to vehicle tech. Time to push forward.
