Wait wait wait....did anyone else notice the first post where the car sounded bad and the valves were tapping and such? Then later on a few posts later it's running like a dream? Yay for magic!
A top notch will cost you more than $1800 in materials alone plus another 8-10k in labor so don't expect much from this shop and don't be disappointed if it's cracked and peeling by the time you get your license.
Get the engine running correctly, take a class and learn how to paint it yourself....and spend the next 3 years taking your time to do it right. And DO NOT Joyride!

WHA! Wow, didnt know paint jobs were that expensive. Well, super awesome mega detailed ones yeah.
IMO, this kid should sand the crap out of it, fill in the low spots, spray it with primer and just take it to a quality Macco shop. IMO, he will probably be happier with that, and you spend nearly as much money.

getting cars painted sucks, thats why ill be painting all my cars myself in the future, after a few i should get the hang of it. and 27"s are where its at. I have 20's(giovannas) and they look tiny on my truck, i want to upgrade to 24's but they are a lotta money. The cheap large wheels you can buy suck due to more rotating mass which wont allow the vehicle to stop nearly as good, thats why they charge so much for good 20's and larger.

ok i'll jump in......

joy riding= WAY FOCKIN BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

as far as paint....wait for it. i got a VW from my dad's friend when i was 14. it was a Quantum Wagon and looked like a POS. i saved cash and by the time i was 16, i had a nicely warmed up GTI Turbo motor in it and was keeping pace IROCs. i woulda killed for an Fbod when i was 14, but the VW was there and it was practice.

like Al said, you need a plan. sit down one day with a notebook and write out everything you want to do to it. then price out the parts online. make sure to remember that the mods have to compliment each other. you can't put on 17x9.5s and not upgrade the brakes. start at the wheels and work up to the paint, deatiling everything inbetween you want.

look at it this way, i'm almost twice your age and have duct tape patching a hole in the front corner of my 96(Acura ran me off the road, stupid ricers), but the car hauls. body work is the last thing on my mind, and my shop has it's own body shop!

Ok then your car has a twin. There was a early 4th gen with duct tape on the nose, going north bound between exit 114 and the Cheesequake Rest Area.

1800 = top of the line MAACO job....

the 8-10k estime on labor of a top eschilon job is actually pretty damn accurate (my dad paints and does body work for a living for the last 30some years)

one of his buddies did a custom job on a viper, and all done and finished that had a car that was invited to sema....with a total paint cost of 40k

oh and if anyone without a lisence was joyriding and hit me....i would own them, their parents, their grandparents, their dog, and whatever the **** else mattered to them.....the end

wow. 40k in paint is a lot. i was thinking 4-6k, but i'm gonna help with the sanding, too, which eats up a lot of labor, so it may end up being less. also, to keep the costs down, i will not be going with black. any black car that isn't done correctly looks like ass.
