Correction. With an intake + carb swap, headers, plugs and tuning (the equivalent of today's "bolt ons") they ran high 10's on a 1960's tech 9" wide drag slick. You gained 80hp by just disconnecting the factory exhaust - dyno proven.
Power numbers for the "terminator" are in the mid to low 400's. They are in the 5's for the ZL1, which is a lighter car (by 400 lbs) with better gearing.

Do you really really want to get into this?
The "original" fbody was in fact derivied from the upcoming 1968 Chevy II/Nova, which BTW came as a 4 door, and a 2 door, and a wagon. It was a sedan based platform.
Thats pretty ****in "herritage" to me. The 2nd gen moved foward with a revised set up of the first gen.
Third gen gets its chassis design from the X bodies of teh late 70's.
4th gens were just a revision of the third gen.

in the last few years ford has done a better job than chevy at turning around their image. the live axle also helps cut some costs too.

Where did you get that little nugget of info? In the last few years, Chevy has retaken the #1 sales spot from Ford.
Ford has only recently seen some sort of boost because its the only one that didnt line up for money.
Quote:
camaro to me lost is pony car roots. its supposed to be bang for your buck. back when the 4th gen lt1 and ls1 cars were romping around the avg sedan was a boring plastic throwaway with a boring v6 doing high 16s on the 1/4 mile. now even the camry runs in the 14s.
|
Are you friggin serious?
Lets get into every ounce of this.
Lost its pony car roots? It lost its roots in 1993, when it turned into a 4 seater Corvette, and moved away from the daily driveable personal sports car that the Camaro started at. Camaro offerd more then the Mustang from day one, giving mroe performance, handling, and comfort.
Bang for the Buck? Do you remember what LS1 SS cars cost back in 2002? I do, they cost as much as the current SS does now!!! 30k!!! Thas back in 2002 money.
And even more, do you remember what Mustang GT's cost? Under 25k.
Your "average" sedan comparision is ********, and you are using numbers to justify your comparision.
First off, your average 4 cyl midsized sedan like the Camry made 120-140, and running 17's at best. But V6 models produced power at and around 200hp, right in line with what the base model V6 Camaro put out in 1995.
Now we move fowad to today's cars.
Average midsized sedan with a 4cyl makes 175hp and runs 16's.
The average midsized sedan with a V6 now makes hp in the 260hp all the way up to 290hp. They run all in the 14's. The Camry has 268hp, and weighs in at 3300lbs. The horsepower wars have also kept up in other parts of the automotive world. The new Buick LaCrosse gets the same V6 that is found in the Camaro, making 285hp or around there. A Buick! Havent seen a 285hp+ Buick since....and im talking about advertised.
Your "average" sedan is a bit more above average compared to 5-10 years ago.
Quote:
40k bucks for a car that does the same thing as my old 98 did doesnt impress me one bit. id rather take the mustang that does it for 10 grand cheaper and gets me a higher model
|
40k? Camaro starts at 31k. i saw a fully loaded one, with the ground effects and stripes, just reach over 40k.

That wasnt the question.
And further more, they are of equal comparision.
Both are higher end sports coupes, making 350hp or more, with IRS, 6spd manual trans, and upgraded interior.
They were priced about the same, at least MSRP vs MSRP.
Both were low production units geared at the higher end performance coupe market. Trim, no trim. Model, no model. They are aiming for the same people.

Third gens are ugly, slow, and outdated POSs.
Ok, added my two cents. Continue with the stupid.

Footnote:
The '67 Camaro and '68 Nova were developed at the same time. One was not based on the other. That's straight out of the mouth of Chuck Hughes. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the first gen Camaro shares a lot with 4 door cars.

Thank you
That picture is a few years old now I guess? That was before all new suspension. I think that was when I just picked up the new rims/tires.
It looks different now. I actually just put a new intake on, and as of the other day, it just wouldnt start. Ill have to play with it on Saturday if it isnt too bad outside.

you still sbc/carb ? or did you ruin it by goin efi ?
i take it that its still carb and its got a holley strapped on it and thats why it wouldn't start. holleys so tempermental to temp/humidity change. i put a hp950 on my turd gen. what a difference, all i had to do was set the idle, seems like it pulld another 1000 in r's too.
