Cheap Head Unit
i am in the market for a cheap head unit. my car came with one, but half the buttons don't seem to work, so i am looking to replace it.
not interested in anything fancy. the car does have 6 speakers in it(not sure if the amp for the sub is there or not) and they seem to be in pretty good shape(the two i have looked at were factory).
only things i need are a radio, a cd player, and i woudl like to have a front input for MP3/XM in case i happen to have some extra toys in the car.
it only needs to be an OK radio, i don't tend to blast the radio or anything and i am not interested in spending a ton of money.
TIA

+1 for Pioneer. I bought a low-end Pioneer CD player for my Cherokee two years ago and it works great! It's never skipped, and has decent power output. I used to buy Kenwood headunits, but the last one took a dirtnap a mere 2 months after its 12-month warranty expired. A friend of mine had the same headunit, and his bit the dust as well, around the same time. We were unhappy, to say the least!

I found that Pioneer DEH-3900M on Amazon for $115.98 shipped......I'm prolly gonna get that for the Jeep. The one that's in there now skips like crazy, even after a lens cleaning. Damn Eclipse POS.

Jake, It's an Eclipse 5440.....not sure how old, but most of the mods on my Jeep were done around 2000 - 2001.

those older ones are leaps and bounds better than the new ones. i have a 8503 which just has extra features over yours but is ultimately the same head unit. there is probably something wrong with it if it skips excessively.

The skipping seems to have stopped now, hasn't done it to me in over a week now. I'm still prolly going to replace it though - I want MP3 playback. Plus I have all the stuff to hook my XM receiver up through IP Bus, which is why I'm looking at Pioneer for a decent headunit.
