Agreed. Buy a 3rd gen gas tank from a TPI or TBI car, new high pressure fuel pump, and install used LS1 with an aftermarket harness and custom motor mounts. If your car has a 700R4, I'm almost positive the 4L60E is the same size and would bolt right up to your existing crossmember and driveshaft.

The fast or holley kits will be cheaper to "bolt on", but you'll get better results with the engine swap.

With all due respect.

If you already have a solid 383 and a $5K budget, why wouldn't you want to use a FAST of Holley system?

I missed that too.

You built a 9:1 383? May I ask, why that compression?

you are not doing a nicely done LS swap for $5k. Fuel, tuning, harness and exhaust alone swallows that if it is half decent.

so it sounds like a drag car. so why EFI?

if you are really going to play with turbos I think the self-learning systems are off the table.

Take the turbo idea, and throw it away. No offense, but 5k won't get you a setup you will be happy with.

Either try and sell the current motor, and swap in an LS1/LT1

Or, listen to the third gen people and swap to a stock EFI setup and use the 5k to make sure its all working great, and tuned well.

Yeah, best way to do it is to go with some sort of MPFI system. Stay away from TPI kits, especially for an 383 and turbocharging.
Miniram, Stealth Ram, etc etc would work. I would also listen to Adam and say either add another 5k to your budget or just stick to an aftermarket EFI system to get you ready for the future.

Ight im swinging towards the ls motors seeing that there just all around better.

Was talking to my buddy and he says the 5.3 ls motors out of trucks are easy to find for cheap but i want a 450hp motor so anyone know if its easy to get that high with one of these or should i just spend more for an ls1?

kohlers right, i had money budgeted out for my turbo build and its not even close lol

if your going to go turbo, price out how much its gunna cost you for all the parts and labor, and them make shure you got about a 3k cushion on top of that.
