New toy for the summer (if all goes well)
I'm in the process of buying one of those sprint jet boats but it has to be transported from OR to NJ. It's a 14' aluminum sprint boat with a crate 350 in it. The jet drive should work better for me than the speed skiff for when the river gets low. Hopefully, it makes the trip safely but it won't be picked up for 10-12 days. It should be able to do 60-70 mph depending on what impeller is in the jet drive.

The boat finally showed up this morning (talk about bad timing with the driveway being a sheet of ice). But all looks good so I can't wait to see how this thing runs. It actually looks more insane in person, it's a pretty small boat. Now we just need to get some warm weather and melt all the ice in the river!

Is it legal in any river?
It seriously looks like a death trap. Fun but deadly....

Sure, it has all the lights and safety equipment, so did the speed skiff I sold last year. But the speed skiff needed like 2' of water to get going and this probably only needs 6-8" of water so it should be a little safer in that respect.

Jeff, kinda like the argument for 4x4s in the snow, they work so much better than regular cars, but when going faster, it takes longer to stop In 6"-8" of water, by the time you are going bat-outa-hell, there will be this submerged rock that is only 2" from the surface, ouch! But have Fun!

I was hoping to take it for a run this weekend but with the wind and the river came up 4 feet, it wasn't good enough conditions so I spent a couple of hours cleaning up all the salt and road grime from its trip across the country. After I removed the OR registration numbers, I found ID numbers underneath and they were painted on. It took me a week of slowly wet sanding in a cold garage to get the old numbers off. If you look at the lettering across the windscreen, you can see the different shades. The paint is 3 layers to create the shadowing type of effect. Thankfully, there's a lot of clear coat on it so it cleaned up nicely.

The seats and carpet were really dirty with the salt so it took so scrubbing but they are pretty faded and started to tear so I couldn't be too aggressive trying to clean them.

Finally got the boat out for a run yesterday. The river is running high so I took it easy and just ran upstream for a couple of loops. Wow, this boat is really sensitive and you have to hold on to get it running straight. I wasn't sure how the turning was going to be and I thought I was taking it easy, but it whipped a 180 instantly with a slight turn of the wheel. There is hardly any movement to the steering nozzle, but the turning is incredible. There was still quite a bit of debris in the river so I took it easy for the first run. My legs are too short and I can't get the pedal all the way down, so I need to move the pedal back because the seats don't move. Definitely a wild ride and completely different from the speed skiff.

I've had it out about 5 or 6 times now and still getting a feel for it, but it's a lot of fun and not nearly as loud as the speed skiff was. There was a slight leak at the riser gasket so I'm replacing that now. I took a couple of pics last weekend with it next to my 16' Lowe modv fishing boat. The Lowe will run pretty shallow being a jet tunnel hull.

My buddy got a shot of the rooster tail but by time he took the picture I was already letting off so it was not a full rooster. I couldn't tell how big it was when I'm driving the boat and it doesn't look big at all but it turned out to be a lot longer than I realized.

My speedometer only goes up to 3400 mph so I'm good. It's those SeeDoo and SeeDon't boats you need to watch out for.
