Wheel studs > me.
I have the worst luck it seems...
Ran Adam's wheels, so they had the shank style lug,and I have three inch ARP wheel studs... well, gonna need a new one now..
Big thanks to that nameless racer who helped us out.
Dunno what happened, went to switch back to 17 inch rims cause the 28 inch tire was killing my trap speeds and this one lug did not cooperate. They all went on hand tight and were torqued with a torque wrench.. ah well... beats blowing a ten bolt up

You do realize that your "hand tight" is problem good for an easy 80 ft lbs of torque right. I bet you wouldn't even feel a cross thread at this point. Poor stud...it never saw this coming.

Looks like wheel studs aren't your friend. Maybe if you buy them in bulk they'll give you a discount

To much fist pumping. But on a serious note next tine turn the lug backwards so it clicks in before tightening. It'll make sure the threads are lined up. 90 percent of the time that will keep you from coss threading. Note I said 90 because there are plenty of special people that still will

Could be...
Matt, I take it you ran Adam's shank lugs then? Does he know if they are EXACTLY the right ones? Not all shank lugs are created equal. They can be off by fractions of an inch and chew studs.

adam got those used with the wheels so he probably has no clue who makes the lugs or any of the specs other than they are the correct thread...

If he knows the model and size, Summit lists the lug specs on their site. Definetly worth a look IMO

Granted this site thinks I am the retard, but cross threading a 2 1/2 inch nut? Cmon.
Beats me, they all went on nicely the night before.

with those shanked nuts it doesnt take much heat or fatigue to screw them up.. iv had my share of problems with them on my wheels too... but i think i got it down now so its not a problem anymore

I've had a few messed up/cross threaded lugs on some of the newer Camaros I've had. I had to cut one front lug off as it was cross threaded so bad someone messed up the lug key as well. It was most likely a messed up lug that went on crossthreaded and didn't put up much resistance so it torqued down like normal.

This is possible. With Smash's 70004492343434342342423.4 ftlbs of torque output per arm, Im surprised he didnt snap all of them.
We figured there would be a GP on 12 bolts, with axles flying out like Scud missles. But all that happend was a busted stud and a possible blown input shaft.
The DS didnt spin when he put it "in gear".

If the threads where already slightly screwed up it wouldn't be hard to cross thread them and not notice. Cheap lugs with soft metal. I've done quite a few times. I'm sure most people have. It's unavoidable

i don't really care to dive into could be's but the portion of the stud was sticking out of the shank that is stripped. i believe it was a heat issue but its over now and i still have a chunk of flesh missing.

Months later, and the old one is out. ARP hooked me up with a brand new stud free of charge, good people.
Thread is pretty mangled, looks like due to heat.
