Long time fbody owner, new to the site.
Hello Everyone,
I bought my 97 30th anniversary Z28 back in 2000 and have had it ever since. I just got it out and back on the road after it sat in the garage for the last 6 or 7 years. Looking to get back into the hobby now that I have a little more time. I am in the Philadelphia area and found this site through another forum looking for clubs. It seems like there are not a whole lot of people getting together for shows or events in PA. I saw some of the things people from NJfbody organize and I'm looking forward to the upcoming warmer months. In the meantime I'm going to work on my car so it can get around reliably. Currently I'm trying to figure out why it is running hot. Would love to through in a cam/heads etc. in the future. This car ran 13.6 with a 1.9 60' on worn street tires back in the day, would love to get it into the low 12s. Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing some cool cars out there.
Doug,

Welcome Doug. Feel free to post additional pics. Regarding the overheating issue, there are a number of resources available to help diagnose the issue. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#cooling

Stock lt1s run very hot, up to 3/4 mark, before the fans kick on. Make sure there is actually an issue with it before fixing
Welcome

Haha that is true, nothing like creating problems that aren't there. I have a feeling the fans aren't kicking on at all. The car gets up past three quarters until I start driving and getting are flow over the radiator. I'm going to check for sure in the next few days. I noticed the heater isn't kicking on and that when I turn the ac to max it doesn't force the fans on.

Welcome to the club. Do you have any tuning software for the car?

If fans don't kick on during A/C, check your fans out, they should come on with the AC!

I do have an old hypertech tuner floating around somewhere, I think I can adjust the temp the fans kick on with it if I remember right. I'm going to check the fans out this weekend like Thor says. Maybe there is an electrical issue with them. Definitely not kicking on with the ac like they should.

So sweetbmxrider was right, both fans are kicking on. I don't remember the car running this hot but maybe I will try reprogramming the setting they kick on with my old hypertech. I missed the last meet because I was hung over but will try to make it to make it to one of the next ones.

If you lower fan kick on temp, you should also replace the thermostat with a "colder" one.
