Go stainless. Plenty available on eBay for right around $300. Last longer and look prettier longer too!

Does that come with a y-pipe? I picked up a new set for $274 shipped, but no y-pipes were available at the time so I went the custom route. Really didn't have too many fitment issues other than passenger side touched heat shield and just touched body, nothing a little hammering couldn't correct. They aren't Speed Engineering, so fitment could be better.

Tune it out and buy EGR block off plate for back of the intake. I passed inspection without any of that, they even popped the hood with the shiny new headers. They had a hard time with the visual, the Magnaflow bullet cats threw them off, but they passed it with no questions asked. It's 110% worth the money, you won't regret it.
I'd shop around and find something with a y for that price or cheaper and get one made.

Aha well duh I know how to delete it I was just curious about inspection. I did notice they don't pop the hood just look for a cat and check the light.
Thanks for the info. I'll keep my eyes peeled. Might pull the trigger on a set from speed if he fixes his prices

Your car is OBD2 so they just plug it in. As long as there are no codes, your gas cap is good, and the under chassis camera shows something that resembles a catalytic converter they will slap on a sticker and tell you to have a nice day. So update the tune to properly eliminate the emissions and you will be good to go.
And really it is only a 50/50 shot that they bother to look at the screen for the cat.

I figured. I was just so afraid of them actually looking and me getting the big bad red sticker
Thanks guys! non-emissions it is lol with a catted Y-pipe.
2 Questions:
1. If I get stainless headers, should I get them coated?
2. What kitty kat do/did you guys run in your Y-pipe? It is just a simple cut/weld in correct?

I used Magnaflow 59929 bullet cats on my y-pipe. Advance sold them. Ordered online using code P20 or 20% and had them shipped to the store so I didn't have to pay anything.
You may just be able to use one of them on the intermediate section of the pipe. I had a 1995 so I had to deal with tailpipe testing.
If you *think* you are clean enough, I have some gutted cat shells you can have to pass if you need 'em. For 3" pipe.

Yeah 96 cars had 1 cat right on the header and 1 cat in the y pipe... so I would just throw 1 in the y-pipe. itll tone down the raspy GMMG also.
Im not concerned about clean, just the sound. but if I can look clean, be "clean",and sound better, works for me lol.
Thanks for the advanced auto tip. I love that 20% discount lol. i buy online then go into store.

Regarding cleanliness I was talking about the issue you might face using a gutted cat at inspection. Will totally pass visual and SES test but the smell might be a problem if your car is cold/runs rich to begin with.

Ah haha I hear ya. I want a cat just for the sound and might as well kill some of the smell and try to save the trees..... Lol

Should be a simple cut and weld.
I placed two Magnaflow spun metallic cats right at the end of the collectors. They get nice and hot so there's no noxious smell and they cut down on the rasp a lot. I wold think one would work too, but a single bullet style cat that far away wouldn't be as efficient.
Coating them would help with the heat, but it would also be a maintence thing too. Plus more $ lol

any pics of your job on the cats?
might pull the trigger on LPPs. $550 and after doing reading they fit well.
You don't think 1 kitty in the Y pipe would be good? 2 cats is like ~$180 lol

I've had the jethot headers for about 8 years, just starting to show some wear / light rust on the tubes. They are very simular to Hooker super comps. The flanges are thick, 3" collectors and 3 bolt flanges.
Plug access is a ^%@%! I have to use a offset wrench to get to them. And most from under the car. Have to drop the started to get to the back two. driver side might be as bad, but I have my wiring harness and oil feed tubes for the supercharger down there as well. But that's is the only real complaint I have.
I hear other using differnt brands can get to their plugs with less effort, or with the short sockets.
I had Mufflex build my Y-pipe. I went with 3" in/out bullet cats. I know that technically it's not leagal. The cats are not in their original location ( and 93s only has 1), but I never had an issue with that.
