Mine's back in pieces pending another try at fixing my T-56 gearbox, at this point I'm down for the rest of July.
That's the bad news. The good news is that this time I'm doing an upgrade, and not just attempting a repair of my chronic 3-2 downshift glitch.
A buddy of mine in Delaware has a recipe for transplanting C5 Vette gearbox internals (bigger mainshaft, nicer synchros and blockers, etc.) into an F-body T56 housing with no hacking. He's agreed to do mine at the end of this month, so I snagged a C5 trans and I'm doing teardown to inspect the donor parts.

I'd guess the endlink has been busted for awhile because there is rust all the way across the fracture line......

that rod end was bent the jam nut is cocked at a angle, how old is it and what size rod end , scott have any off road trips lately. If not then maybe a rod end up grade is needed or a bigger size rod end. it takes a whole lot of force to bend one of those. mcmaster cataloge might event have the strength ratings for them.

its like 3 years old and smaller than recommended because it was the only way for it to reach the further back holes for softer settings. but i put the big endlinks on and they look beefy.
basically i came in 8th out of 106 cars and i had no swaybars. thats gotta be worth somethin'

When the car is on the suspension are the upper and lower rod ends in the same vertical plane or is that not possible? I am thinking that if the rod ends are not in the same vertical plane, then they could be put under side loads leading to the failure you experienced.
I realize they are designed to allow some side loading, but if they start out mis-aligned they could be trying to articulate beyond their limits. Does that make sense?
In the pic it apprears the car is jacked up and the suspension in full droop and the rod ends are not in the same plane. The lower end looks to be further inward than the upper end?
