An LS1 Intake question for hotrod

2000 Camaro LS1 going into a 1932 Chevy Sedan.

TB has like zero room. 4-5in between the opening and the radiator.

Did any other LS cars like vettes or even a truck TB have either a transverse or diagnal mounted TB or perhaps an intake manifold that will set the TB back further?

damn. you can't set the engine back any further? How about running a carb style intake?

Any one from the firewall to engine?

Could always flip the intake around.

We already gave the firewall some smacking to get her in there...

If we flip the intake what problems will I run into? Thermostat in the back? How bout EGR? I'm not very versed in LS motors...

I was thinking a carb style intake with a TB adapter to go back to the Fuel injection TB?

I just went a took a much better look at it. This seems like its gonna be the way to go. And yes the closer look also revealed the thermostat is nothing like a SBC lol.

And flipping it the TB wouldnt even fit with the firewall there.

u could custom make a 90degree TB elbow between the TB and intake manifold, and have the TB facing left or right... you'd just need to move the throttle linkage bracket

Yeah I thought about that but I think a much cleaner installation would be a square bore FI manifold like a victor JR, then a square bore to TB adapter to get the TB up and back.

you'd need new fuels rails too then.

yes its cleaner, but you're talking now almost another grand in parts...

OR just go carb, that was my idea in a 3rd gen. lol and get the ignition converter box to fire the coils

edelbrock makes the intake with fuel rails & all. It sounds like the way to go. You'll need a SD tune. With DBW it is a really sweet setup, MAST makes an adapter. But you aint got that. Go prowl ls1tech to see what TBs people are using.

I don't know how much hood clearance you have, but you could skip the whole throttle body bends etc etc...

Run a single plane of your choice, and top it off wiht one of these.

Then a carb style air filter on top, as stated you would need a SD tune though.

Edelbrock has these elbows to use with the victor jr or super victor. You can still use the MAF with this setup so you don't need to go to a SD tune. We can get them and the victor intake manifold along with the fuel rails needed to use this setup. Let me know.

Alright so with a 4 barrel style TB I would need to convert to speed density. I dont think theyre really gonna be down for that here in the shop. We're not big electronics people and the mechanic is already a little peeved we're not going with a distributor simulator, carb, and standalone tranny controller.

Now if I got a square bore to LS1 TB adapter is there a company that makes a square bore fuel injection manifold that can use the stock fuel rails?

Yeah this is what I was looking at. Is there a square bore intake that can use the stock rails? If not what am I looking at price wise to set it up with the correct rails?

O and in the interest of keeping all options open what would it take to go speed density? Besides a tune and a MAP sensor? Whats the deal with wiring. I just ordered a harness from Street and performance so I need to know this stuff so I can get the harness adjusted if I need to add in a SD circuit.

stock fuel rails have the crossover in the middle right where a carb style manifold would have the square opening. so youd need aftermarket ones

That is why edelbrock sells an intake+rail kit.

Well I wasnt aware but apparently the customer is on a budget. So looks like we're gonna go with having our machinist make an air box like some ITB inline 6s and 4s have.

Thanks for the help though guys.

This might be your best solution. It pulls the air in through the back.

Nope. We've looked at it like six different ways. Cant move the motor because the firewall is already as hacked as we're willing to get. Plus the frame is already boxed and trans crossmember done and motor mounts done.

Cant move the radiator because theres not even enough room to squeeze a condenser in.

Got a foot of vertical space though...
