Distributer not dropping in
Been at this for an hour now. It's a 90 T/A 305 tpi. Marked old distributer and rotor locations before and after pull. Set new distributer rotor to second location and tried to get it to go in but it's fighting me like crazy. I've replaced distributers before and never had this much trouble. Any ideas???

My experience is that sometimes you can spin the oil pump drive past where it was when you took it out, you may need to turn the crank a little with the distributor in. I had that happen in my BBC when I had to change the distributor a few times, I just turned the engine over and it fell in place

Ok I'll take a whack at it. But do I have to have the rotor lined up with the secondary mark or cylinder #1?

as long as you had the mark lined up from where it came out it should be OK if you turn the engine. Just double check everything once youre done

When you pull the distributor sometimes the helix on the gear will make things spin a little bit. Try moving the rotor a little bit further and see if it goes. You need to re-time the engine anyway, so a tooth moved is not a big deal.
I just had this happen on my Nova.

Last one I installed wouldnt go in because the notch for the oil pump drive wasnt in the same position as the old one even tho the rotor was in the same position.

Worked perfectly. Had GF hit the key real quick and it dropped right in. Adjusted the timing and the car lit right up. Pretty good for a car that's been sitting since 2008. Thanks again guys!
