clutch opinions...think it might be time
Swapped my rear in the winter to a 9" , same time swapped the master with a dorman master. car drives great on the street. get to e-town last night to run and kept getting locked out of 2-3-4 under full throttle.
off the track car drives normal...
so obviously 1 issue is hydrolics again, the dorman sucks for what im trying to do and I should swap to the tick master. , the slave is possibly failing , clutch is starting to go.
which leaves me at these choices :
-monster stage 2
-monster stage 3 (which is actually cheaper than stage 2)
-Spec stage 2
Should I do the aluminum flywheel or steel flywheel ? lighter or regular weight ? 28lb v 18lb
Should I just start with the Master and take it from there or should I just do everything at once? I really didn't wanna dumb cash like this but I wanna race this season.

In my '01 SS,
@10k I spun the splines inside my oem "ls6" clutch. Installed a shiny new spec stage 3.
Chatter was horrible all the time. The Spec would cause the pedal to hang up and not come back, allowing for me to over-rev it not in gear. When it came out, the pressure plate was junk, marks and hot spots all over it, the disc, and flywheel.
So when I did the motor swap(425rwhp), I installed a Textralia clutch. It was perfect however I don't think they are available anymore. Was from Australia.
I ran stock, non-drilled master and a stock slave. Performed great!
However, I did not launch at that high of an rpm, lol, nor did I ever run drag radials since I had a stock rear.
In my 05 CTS-V, I installed the LS7 clutch after the dual-mass pos flywheel tilted. I drove that car pretty hard and it never gave me any issues, and its quite a bit heavier than an f-body.

McLeod or LS7
Had two Monster clutches come apart on me, one with less than 1k miles and nothing over 3k rpms cause engine was on break in, and another one after 8k miles and no drag radials. springs on the hub were broken.
Put a buddy's used ls7 in after that and beat 10 shades of ***** out of it with 0 issues before upgrading to a Mantic Twin

I am most 99.9 going with the spec 3 because thats what my boy/tuner dave@efx uses exclusively... he's had tons of seat time with those so I trust his opinion.

Ok, perhaps they have gotten better since I used one, because that was almost 14 years ago, lol, and things do change.
Let us know how it works out. Eventually I'm doing a motor/T56 swap into my GTA and I'll be looking for a clutch to hold 505+ flywheel hp.

JSPerf built me a custom clutch after I burned through a Spec 3i. The Spec just couldn't hold the power. You would be remiss to buy a clutch without first talking to Josh. He's a sponsor and he's the real deal when it comes to drivetrains.

LT1s don't have shims, as we have pull style. I asked spec if I needed to do anything special and they said no.

Odd, I can't say I've honestly had any problems with these Spec units. Would it slip when making a pass?

Nope it grips really good. It just hates street driving. I figured the stage 2 was over kill so I went with the 1. Same thing. Any parking lot maneuvers and it chatters and smells

I tell all my customers that their is a fine line between performance and comfort. Some sacrifices must be made to get an ET and ET must be sacrificed to get comfort.
