Question fly wheel

hey guys if u have a cracked flywheel how will u know i mean does it make somekinda sound or something...

that would be a flexplate then killer.

and yea, a cracked flexplate can make a noise, and/or cause a vibration. most of the time you will hear the noise while cranking.

then its a flex plate, not a flywheel. Jack the car up, pull off the inscpection cover and look at it and see if its messed up

and these questions belong in the tech forms....

okay well its making a litle tapping noise almost like a lifter does but its not a lifter..and some times its loud and sometimes its not...

Flexplate failures are rare, i would look into an exhaust leak.

i belive my 86 had the same sound that you have, when i pulled the flywheel off i noticed it was cracked and i am 99% sure it came off like that and it didnt happen from breaking the bolts loose. it would almost make a sound like if u put a piece of paper in a plastic fan.

well people i tuke the tranny on out and geuss what i got...ill have pic up of it tomorrow.....the wole center of it was snaped a perfect circle

I've seen them crack around the mounting area. It will cause vibrations. I guess it could make sound or cause weird starter engagement. Rare, but it does happen.
