my bicycles...
Back before I turned 17 and got into cars, I was into bikes.
During my deployment to Afghanistan I bought a new bike since my old one had seen better days. well last week i finally finished up putting my new bike together, I still just need to finish adjusting the brakes.
They gray one is a 2009 FIT Park Signature Bike, basically stock other than modified with a 990 plate brake set-up on the front and 4 piece bars swapped on. The 25/9T gearing still bugs me out from what I',m used to in the past.
The gold/yellow bike is a Schwinn super stock 1 and is one of my older bikes.( my first bike was a Haro which is still have somewhere) I bought this bike in '96 while working at the local Schwinn shop. It was modified back then with new bars, an Odyssey II gyro, 3 piece GT cranks, as well as a 990 plate front brake setup. The bars, fork, and cranks were rusted badly so i pulled everything apart and sanded and painted then cleared then. It looks a lot better now. As for the wheels. the stock hubs are still perfect but all the spokes rusted and i had to cut them. I just thew the GT performer mags on it to roll it around. I will be getting alien nation rims and re-lace them to the stock hubs. Other than that, i still need a front brake cable, tires and a chain, but that's all simple stuff I'll get to eventually. It has pegs too, just not on it now due to the narrower axles of the GT wheels.
I also came across an old flatland frame, not sure of brand, with a mongoose fork with the threaded holes for fork mounted pegs. Free to a good home. But ah... The good old days. My Haro also has fork mounted stands i believe. i need to find that bike... i think its buried in the shed... That'll be my next bicycle restoration job.

the schwinn retail after all mods was over 1k in 1996, but being that i worked at the shop and got it for cost, i saved a few hundred. The FIT i think came in around the 700-something range with all mods bought but i also bought a hat, shirt, and sweater too.
now i keep thinking about my Haro, bought it used for $25 bucks, Its red/black with white 5spoke skyway mags. i can wait to get home and restore that one. but even that gold/yellow bike, other than the chrome parts, it held up very well for being 15 years old and beat on a lot.

I had (and still have) a 80s Skyway T/A. The thing was light as heck and appears to be a bit of a collectors item. It was a gift to me from my father's boss back when he worked in the Bronx as his son had grown older and no longer wanted it. I really want to get back on that bike some day. This is what is should look like. It looked very similar to that, minus the blue anodized parts and mine had a blue plastic seat.

last time i saw the bike it was in a friends garage.... i dont know what happened to it after that.
i found a stock photo
after i destroyed it i bought a mongoose from kmart and swapped the wheels and tires on, its was black and yellow

I had a loaded redline. their aluminum flight cranks, went through wheels like those on that skyway (tuff wheels?) and z-rims. busted up the knee and sold it all lol
I remember the skyways but I don't remember them being a big deal.

Christmas of '83 or '84 my parents got me a Mongoose Californian - here's a pic I found on the net of what it looked like -
I modded mine with blue Skyways, white tires, and I think mine had a blue/chrome 2-piece pedal sprocket. I gave it to my mechanic in the early '90s in exchange for an exhaust job on a car I had. It might still be in his shed, I'd have to ask him.

it was '96/'97 ... that hairstyle hair didnt stick out that much, plus prior to that time frame, The top was longer, down to my chin, yet still shaved up high. in the second pic i have a hat on, but there my hair is long enough to put it in a pony tail(yet shaved on sides.
In the end, i was dating a blonde cheerleader with that "shemp" hair cut... so obviously it wasn't a deal breaker.
