That sucks. Were you beating on it when it went? Are you sure it's done?

I would want until December before even looking at that car again. Apparently November just isn't your month.

check north jersey craigslist. When i was looking for a 4L60e for my car there was a handfull of LT1 ones for sale for decent price.

Have you tried to shift it manually ? Any difference between D and OD ?

i drove the car home having it in 2nd gear at one point i tried to shift into D but nothing was there lol.

problem with finding a trans in north jersey thats a long ass walk.

can i use any lt1 4l60e or does it have to be from an obd2 fbody ? i still can't believe this.

here is the screwy thing, my dad's 04 avalanche is in the trans shop right now getting the trans in that rebuilt as he lost the 3-4 clutch pack last week. and the week before that the transmission in my sisters car went. both of those were worth the cost of a trans rebuild. but i can't see spending that kind of $ for a 20 year old fbody with no resale value.

How long is your commute ? Can you get away with second gear?

Im 95% any LT1 60e will work. Ive blown up 2 4L60e trans (so far, check again next year) and 1 was the 3-4 pack being smoked, 1 was sheering the tailshaft off.

And your right, for the money a trans rebuild will cost you may be able to buy an entire parts car.

Best bet is find one on craigs or check facebook forsale pages. Theyll run you under 500 bucks. ive seen them as low as 200. And if need be contract one of your buddys to take the ride to get it

i stand corrected, get ready to read

None of the '93 -'97 4L60E's are directly interchangeable, except '93 and '94!!! Here's a list of yearly differences that will show you why. Yes, some years will fit in others and may not even throw a code, but there will be an issue in the long run. The big issues become forced 3-2 downshifts, and converter lock up issues and burnt lock up clutches. When a converter cluych cause it to lose lock up, the 3-4 clutches, in the transmission will soon follow because the 3-4's need lock up to keep them cool while cruising in overdrive.

1993: These were used in trucks only. Not available in F-Bodies

1994: Interchangeable with '93 4L60E with no modifications. The '93-'94 is a NON PWM transmission. This means that the lock up apply strategy is an on /off arrangement. It has an 11 pin case connector. Does not have PWM cast into front pump. 1 piece TCC control valve in the valve body. Plate has holes in plate, marked in diagram below. 1st design 3-2 valve

1995: Will not interchange with any other year. An extra solenoid was added to the valve body to control the pulsed lock up strategy of the conerter clutch. It has a 12 pin case connector, extra wire in the transmission to computer harness and different computer to control the new PWM circuit. Has PWM cast in front pump. Front pump internal passages different to match new TCC strategy. 2 piece TCC control valve in valve body. Has holes in plate, marked in diagram below. 1st design 3-2 valve. 12 pin case connector. '94 computer won't recognise new TCC strategy., and will burn lock-up clutch and 3-4 clutches up. '96 computer isn't compatible with '96 3-2 control solenoid.

1996: The 3-2 downshift strategy was changed to an on /off arrangement. The TCC control solenoid was changed to a 20-31 OHM solenoid, from the previous 10-15 OHM solenoid. The 3-2 control valve was changed to the second design valve. The easiest way to identify the valve is, the second design valve will fall out as soon as the solenoid is removed. The first design has a plug and retaining clip. TCC solenoid remains 10-15 OHMs, which is the same as the '95 arrangement. Has PWM stamped cast in pump. pump is the same as '95. Will not interchange with '95 unless changing 3-2 solenoid, valvebody casting, and seperator plate. Has holes in plate marked in diagram. '94 or '95 computer will not accept the 20-31 OHM 3-2 solenoid and will throw an SES light and throw the transmission into limp mode. Some less knowledgeable builders will swap the solenoid so the computer will see the correct resistance, but the valve itself then causes downshift issues. If only the solenoid is changed, it will result in a 3-2 downshift cut loose. In other words...3-neutral-2 downshift. Speedo moved to passenger side of tail housing, but easily changed.

1997: Basically the same as '96.

Lt1 auto trans are not interchangeable for the most part. As ls1ow said. What do you mean "nothing there"? Does it shift from 1st to 2nd?

He lost the 3-4 clutch pack. And yes, the 4l60e is very dependent on application.

nope. well sorta. still weighing my options. there might be a trans in a millville junkyard for $300 granted thats still 50 miles south of me. im also kinda thinking of going and knocking on the door of a guy who use to be a regular customer. who use to rebuild chevy transmissions for a living lol. and seeing if i can convince him to rebuild it for a case of beer.

my parents are of the opinion i shouldn't put any more time effort or cash into this car. they are right now being the devil on my shoulder. my mom is telling me i should go and buy that brand new 2017 zl1 camaro on the lot near her job and my dad is telling me its the perfect time to finally buy the classic 1960s car iv always wanted.

I think the 96 SS I used to own had a 4L60E from an S10 Blazer in it. The bellhousing flange was different and caused some issues when I tried to install some longtube headers. Nothing a hacksaw blade couldn't take care of though. So some of the 2wd trucks and suv's might be interchangeable.

i wish i could just drop this car off at a trans shop like the other two and have some one else deal with it but thats just not a realistic option. so looks like ill be climbing under it today to remove the transmission. and going the junkyard route. to bad i can't just find another car for the price i paid for this one lol.

any tips or anything for removing the trans from a 4th gen ? grr i soo don't have any desire to lay on the street and do a trans swap.

Gotta get the car high enough to get the trans out from under it, so it really sucks without a lift. Swivel sockets and lots of extensions for the upper bellhousing bolts. I use a old slip yoke as a trans plug.

Long impact extension. It's not that hard I've done it 3 times in stones
