His head popped like a 100,000 mile optispark.
This is a pretty big deal, especially if it involves VIN fraud. I can't wait to see what happens.

People were wondering about the authenticity of those if you are speaking of the ones in the article.

that is an old report; BJ had a press conference on all this, and then an extended pre-auction CYA session. IMO they basically said "here is what we know, you make up your own mind" and the price reflects it. $120k for that is speculation money, not historical importance money.

im saying that because no one really knows if the REAL one was crushed or not....no one knows which one is REAL and which it wasn't....barrett-jackson clearly stated when the car went up for bid that the only thing that they could confirm is that the VIN matched the Navy serial number and those 2 matched the conversion company serial number.....they never said this was the vehicle that carried JFk's body, they said it could have been but there is no way to know for sure, basically the only thing they confirmed is that it was a navy ambulance of the time period and that it did not appear to be tampered with

The truth is, we will never know. I do agree, if it was real it would have fetched more money but no one really knows that's why people did bid on it. Car collectors want proper documentation, so chances are the bidders were taking a gamble. If it is fake, it was worth a shot, $120k to most of the people @ B-J isn't that much. On the other hand, if it is real, they just got one hell of a deal. I think they should make a show about this on Unsolved Mysteries!
P.S. I love watching B-J and don't have the money to bid so this won't affect me watching their auctions.

Why not? It's like a car show. A few of us sat and drank some beers Saturday night watching it. seemed like a good way to blow a January night.

I can't watch it anymore. A lot of the cars are pieces of junk that they make shine for the camera, then the legitimate cars don't get enough time on the stage and one of Jackson's friends gets a great deal, there are bogus bids all over the place, and people pay stupid money for "celebrity" owned cars. It's the same old thing every year and they have those stupid filters on the cameras that create that star effect to make everything look nice and shiny. You can't look at the selling price on any of the cars as a market inidicator of real value because you don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Russo Steele is the legitimate auction with real cars and reserves on some of the cars like an auction should be.

IMO everything about this story raises and eyebrow. B-J can't prove the sellers documents are real and EVERY photo Jalopnik has dug up looks fake.....One commenter notes an "LG or Motorola" cell phone in one picture.....I think it could be a beeper.....remember those? However, I doubt anyone was crushing a brand new Pontiac 6000 or Olds Ciera back then, like the ones you see in the third picture with grass growing around them......
I agree with mc73NOVA...if the car is real, dude got a great deal.

IMO, it's not the crushing photos that are questionable. It's the "proof" that the car owner provides that is pretty heavily flawed that points to deception.

That's pretty bad when the "official" Navy plate is available on Ebay as a repo and doesn't match the original. The 69 Camaros made at Norwood are notorious for having fake trim tags and they can be detected somewhat easily but people continue to buy a car first and then ask questions later. There is so much faking, restamping, bogus documenting going on in the classic car hobby it's out of control. There's nothing wrong with building yourself a clone of something if you can't afford the real thing, but 3-4 owners down the road they seem to suddenly become real cars and that's where the problem starts. Usually, classic car dealers get involved somewhere in the middle and conveniently forget some of the facts.

one of my old co-works found a original 1970 340 4spd duster car(nothing special) but the chassis and body was beyond saving, so he bought 70 6cylinder car and just did a body swap. theres a 69 302 camaro sitting at a guys house, the body and chassis are shot, i wanna buy it and swap a 6 cylinder body and retag the car. i kno it isnt the real one, but sometimes it has to be done

Don't even think of swapping the VIN tag or you would be in big trouble!
