Don't worry about car prep or skill level, or really even what class you would be in for that matter. If you are interested in high performance driving autocross is a great way to get your feet wet. Its small scale and comparatively low speed (typical courses you will sit in 2nd gear all the ay through) with no competitors or other things to worry about contact. NNJ, as any SCCA region, will have plenty of guys around that can ride along with you and offer advice.
Just show up, bring your helmet, and plan to have fun. Getting started in autocross is really that simple.

Is there a good torque arm on the car yet? For the small space, point and squirt nature of solo racing I found that to be the biggest single improvement other than tires to help the car from center off.
Are you running ESP or Street Modified?

With a strano sway bar? Update/backdate would allow for swapping any sway bar with in the generation but I thought as soon as you go aftermarket you go out of stock class and into an SP/SM category.

stock class allows 1 sway bar to be replaced (either a front or a back but not both).
you can also increase diamter 1 inch (so i ditched the 17x9's in favor of 18x9's).
You can change the cat-back exhaust and air filter (air box must remain stock).
no other changes allowed in stock class.
Tires must be 160 treadwear but next year goes to 200.

What would you need brakes for? Isn't the idea to go really fast? Brakes are bad for fast

I guess, then, I need someone to help me with the massive understeer I get when hitting 90 degree turns when I'm at the top end of 2nd gear!
