what 12 bolt rear should I go with?
I cant decide what 12 bolt rear I should go with. I currently in the process of putting a 396 lt1 in my 97 Z and I all heard is 10bolts = failure. So I'm looking at the Moser rear offered on Hawksthirdgen or a Strange rear. I currently have a 10 bolt with 2.73 which is a three channel rear (the car came stock with a four channel....someone replaced it with this three channel prior to me owning the car) I have a four channel 10 bolt with 3.42 gears sitting in my garage. Should I sell both and put the money towards a 12bolt rear or should I just pull the 2.73 rear out and put the 3.42 rear in (keeping in mind that the 4 channel rear should be on the car)?
I have 6M, t56 trans in the car and the car will have a 550hp at the crank within weeks. so should I do 3.73 or the 4.10 with the 12bolt?

I would suggest a nine inch with a stick car and a decent amount of hp... a 4.10 gear would work nicley...

My vote goes to a MWC Fabricated 9" with 4.10s

This would be a great idea but you have to fabricate it to fit. It doesnt just bolt right in

Woah where did you see this??? There are few 8.8 build threads on tech but they are all either going 4-link or custom fabricating a tq arm mount.

if u choose between 12 bolts- strange all the way because it utilizes the 2 long torque arm bolts as opposed to the 4 short ones. I had a bolt get ripped out and it f'd so much SH up

I have a Moser 12 bolt with 35 spline axles and a wavetrac that has been great to me. I've had it two cars and over 400 passes so far without issue but as said already with a stick you may want to consider the 9"

well thanks everyone for your advise, i have been going over this in my head all day today...because im working on such a expensive project with this motor and this upcoming spring i'm running a vortec supercharger to it. so i decided for right now while im breaking this new motor in, i'm going to but this 10 bolt 3.42 rear in the car and then once the motor is broken in i'll be putting the 12 bolt strange rear in. i spoke with my buddy who has a 12 bolt strange rear in his old early 70's malibu, and he swears by it. so again everyone thanks, one last question though.. i have the adjustable BMR torque arm, will that work with the strange rear, or does strange use their own torque arm?

It's not the number of bolts it's the tiny ring & pinion

Nothing wrong with the 10 bolt if it is the 8.5. The 7.5 that comes in the fbodies is complete garbage...

I concur, just add in price of driveshaft and designer aluminum cover.

i drilled into my ten bolt and bolted in about 18 bolts, should that be strong enough to handle my heads cam procharger set-up? i figured why spend close to 2 grand when i can go to sears and buy eight bolts for a dollar each
thats a good scam, im gunna put two more bolts into the ten bolt rears and sell them as 12 bolts
I have a Moser 12 bolt with 33 spline moser axles, T/A aluminum cover, spool, Moser 4.11 gears and i havnt had any problems or complaints about itI
