I have to disagree. The first one changed the tuner market when it came out, and allowed every Tom,Dick, and Harry with a Civic to put obnoxious parts on their vehicle that provided almost no improvement whatsoever. BUT, should we blame the movie for making people buy the parts, or should we look to the more plausible explaination to this, the actual owners of the vehicles who thought that buying the parts put them on par with the cars in the movie? To me, it's about the sweet cars they pop into the movies. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with the Ford GT40, and the Corvette Grand Sport ( though in the previews, it looks as though our Corvette takes a dive off a cliff )
I say don't hate until you watch it. If you don't like the movies because of what type of cars they are driving, then you're looking at it the wrong way IMO. Cars are cars, as long as the chase scenes and racing scenes are sweet, then I feel my money was well spent.

Well written Jeff, I too have to say that the first movie was a catalyst for the automotive scene and tuning. I'm sure some of us here got into performance cars after watching the movie when the guys got the babes. It showed really the first import scene, many of the cars are cleanly done in the film series. I can respect them that they represent a segment in the automotive scene as well as packing a bunch of explosions, girls, and fast cars in an nice 90 minute package. Sure I may hate the drivers, and people who idolize after the movie - but it's still a good watch. I've seen them all, and i'm happy to say this will be the first one I will see in theaters.
Can't so much name any other big car movie now aside from the huge hits many years ago that weren't even really dedicated to the car itself. More or less, they stuck the car in the film to make him look cool or provide mind numbing chase scenes. With F&F, cars are more represented.. and they're pushing more American influences on the movies as they progress.

i disagree, there are much better car movies out there that focus on the car. id rather watch that the remake of the dukes of hazard or just watch there reruns. and while it may have helped some get into this great hobby and or profession it has allowed more crap to try and be emulated and put on the streets. then the fact they always seem to destroy a couple of cool American cars in those movies. that always irritates me they destroy the car that is worth something but fix up the ****. hey you do know cars 2 is coming out soon, it will probably be more exciting. i know my grandson wants to see it.
enjoy your movie watch out for the noz when leaving.

they won't be getting my money, not so much because of the duplicated cars they put in for stunt scenes but because the acting is piss poor to begin with. the original green eclipse in the 1st movie was actually a van chassis with an eclipse body slapped onto it somehow so yes it's all for show not so much about the cars and what they can actually do. i'm sure they had some real cars in it and 95% of them were random peoples cars that they picked to show off in the movie

That I will agree on, that's what burned me the most when I saw the first two movies, but that's movies.
The third one kinda had a different approach by combining both tuner and American with the mustang, and although I was disgusted at first, i realized metaphorically, it meant that they wanted to combine both sides of the hobby.
As you can see by the forth one, American and import was about 50/50 in what was shown. The three most known imports in that movies was the Skyline, the Subaru, and at the end the NSX but the four main American cars were the Buick GN/X, Chevelle,Dodge Charger, and then the Burt Reynold edition Firebird ( that's not even including the Camaro the kid had). I think the producers want to appeal to now both hobbies, although they've dug a pretty big hole with eh Domestic scene, but love it or hate it, it's a car movie, it's to me a big reason why this hobby is still doing well.

I saw the fist one, hated it and the loser ricers it created, saw part of the 3rd but didn't like a 4 cyl in a mustang that had a v8. And I won't be seeing this. If not for the cars used, then for the inexcusable acting remember double clutching isn't granny shifting...even though your grandma does it bc she's not used to synchros -_-

Movie was awesome! There were almost no japanese cars at all in this movie. Btw for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, stay until after the credits for special surprise...

skylines, nsx there were plenty of japanese cars in the movie, but agreed there was a good ratio of euro, domestic, japanese. Kinda wish the ending after credits never occurred.

Letty is Michelle Rodriguez, she "died" in the fourth film, and was Doms girlfriend in the first movie.

well, i didnt want to, but my friends took me to see it. and i must admit, it did have a lot of cool cars. A LOT better than the first one!!! But the pure physics of the ending was just so impossible that i couldnt watch with a straight face.. not to mention the corny lines and acting. im afraid to say it looks like they are going to be making a 6th one -_- overall as a movie, it sucked...but if u go to see it only to see some cool cars and nothing more, its not terrible.

The only part of the last scene that was fake was the vault actually being pulled from the wall. Those two cars actually pulled that safe through the streets of Rio. There was no CG in that scene.

I thought it was a good movie, but I have one dilemma. It only had one race in it. I don't mind a story line developing, but in the process a couple more races were necessary to say this was an improvement over the 4th one, or even the third one. I mean they cut out the friggin scene of how Dom won the Porsche!! that would of been golden!!!
Oh and as for the old school black skyline paul walker was driving I would take that over the brand new Skyline at the end ANYDAY of the week hands down.

No, not really - they just led you to believe she was dead in the 4th movie (which is actually the 3rd in chronological order so far).
Supposedly they have plans for two more movies (making a total of 7), but not sure how they will fit into the timeline - whether they will take place before or after Tokyo Drift.
