(Build thread) My plans for a 3rd gen f-body that makes no sense
Ok this is thinking a little bit out of the box considering how most people either go carburated or TPI. But to make a more budget friendly build overall I have settled on a TBI build thats a little.....well different
I want something that will be reliable, fun to drive, run on pump gas and run well.
Here are my plans as itemized.
PLAN (revised)
334 TBI using the factory rebuildable engine
Have 081 heads I have cleaned and opened up a little as well as port matching
Headers and Y-pipe
Custom Dual exhaust using SLP LM1 style resonators (this is subject to change)
Performance lower manifold with EGR provision
Holley Throttle Body/have factory TBI unit rebult/ported
bigger injectors
LT4 hot cam or equal
LCA's
Panhard rod
Panhard rod relocation (this is if I decide to run true dual exhaust)
Torque arm
Wander bar
Sub frame connectors
Eibach Springs
Struts and shocks
Disc rear, 3.42 gear or 3.23
Custom made factory appearing "RS 327" decals

Most that that doesn't seem to be completely crazy. I know another guy on a different forum who is building an old 327 out of a chevelle or vette, to put in his 82. Hes almost done and probably getting ready to install it. But still you're right, why would someone do such a thing? lol.
I don't know if the thread is still on here, but I had the absolutely insane idea of doing another car like the Pegasus show car that was done in the 70s. An updated version of it. That was a 70 Firebird with a Ferrari drivetrain. I was thinking of taking a third gen bird (a 89 or so TA or GTA variant) getting a Ferrari 550 or 575 driveline, stuff it in there. It does have precedent as GM did it in the 70s, but will it happen, I highly doubt it. If you look around on thirdgen.org, there are people doing Viper engine swaps.......

I dunno how much the swirl port heads will flow after work has been done to them. I would look aftermarket at least

Swirl Ports and 327 = fail.
The only thing a 327 would be good for is building a screamer... the swirl ports will surely ruin that.

Well I kinda fubared this anyway because I can't bore a 305 block to 4 inches. so i wouldn't be able to make a real 327. Eagle makes a 334 rotating assembly using a .030 over piston. Oh and I just remembered I do have a set of LB9 081 heads laying around so I can use them instead of the swirl ports.
Featherburner, I plan to use the factory 305 block

The old high-revving 327s are a completely different animal than the 305s. You can stroke a 305 to 334 (as you have already seen), but very few people waste the money.

Get 305, pull the rods and crank out. Throw everything else away! Put rods and crank after machining in a freshly machined 350 block with 30 over pistons and enjoy a 355. Done!

I don't see it as a waste, I see it as different, Im not looking to build a monster or a strip car. I am looking to build something that is just fun to drive. I think a 334 would be fun. It would make nice power and not entirely break the bank. I am not looking to be making crazy numbers, just some nice streetable pump gas numbers

cost wise building a 1 pc 350 block would be about the same money.
Different is ok though

ok so I bought my my starting point last night. It's a 92 RS Camaro 305 TBI automatic with 116,XXX miles. One of the trans cooler lines is leaking bad so ther transmisson won't do anything. I might get lucky if I replace the lines, drop the pan and do a filter and fill it back up. If it works I got a great deal. So my plan as of right now is to fix it and see what else it needs and get it driveable and then go from there.
Pictures are to follow. I have to go take them LOL

Got some done on it today. first order of business was to get it in the garage, that was a workout let me tell ya. Then I got the hood off of it to make things a little easier. that hood will not be going back on the car. Ill be picking up a standard cowl hood at some point. then since the hood cable was stretched like no tomorrow and I had to unbolt the hood latch to get under the hood to begin with I pulled that out. and since the dash pad was so messed up and ill be getting another good one I pulled that too. so all in all a fairly productive day. I would have got the car up in the air but my floor jack decided that today was going to be the day it would leak all the fluid out so time for a new jack
