Well, winter is here and the winter projects begin. There are a few spots on the Camaro's body that I have wanted to redo. The rear tail panel has a few dents and I don't want to replace the whole thing. And as I promised myself when I bought the car I would do everything myself. If I didn't know how I would learn something new. Well here it goes. I bought a stud gun and will try and straighten the panel myself. Plus there a few subtle modifications I would like to try. So here is my new toy. An early Christmas present from my wife.

I haven't posted for awhile but here are some updates. The rear trunk panel and lid in 2nd gen Camaro's never line up very well. As you can see in the first picture.
As this is probably the last 1970 Camaro I will have I decided to do something about it. After a bunch of cutting, fitting, and welding here is the finished result. Much cleaner line between the tail panel and the edge of the trunk lid.
That was last winters project.
This winter I just finished replacing the old th350 with a 700R4 and a new posi unit with 3.73 gears. Should be even more fun this summer.

After I finished all the suspension and big brake work, I spent some time just enjoying the car out on the twisty back roads.
I found out pretty quickly that 2015 suspension and 1970 seats don't go together very well. It was time to sell off the 70 seats and upgrade to something that would keep my butt from sliding all over the place.
Good thing is the 70 seats are hard to come by and went for more then the new seats that I wanted. Here are the new seats in the car and I love them. They not only look great and match the style of the car, but my butt doesn't go anywhere. Plus, they comfortable on long cruises.

Thanks guy's.
Last year I spent quite a while trying to find a 18" spare tire for the Camaro.
A lot of people just kept telling me to join AAA and wait for the flat bed. Or get a space saver spare. Well, I didn't want to do either. I don't really want to sit on the side of the road and wait for someone else to save me.
So I searched and searched for a 18" spare that would fit over the brakes that I have and had some style. The newer GTO's had a 17" spare (I see a lot of drag racers use them) but I knew someone had to make one. So finally I found that Cadillac is the only one who makes an 18" spare tire kit. Plus I love the way it looks.

that is awesome ! No spare sucks unless u dont go far...
No spare in my SS and non run flats but in my m3 and vettes with non-run flats always had an extra wheel/tire in the car with me just in case...

Took the Camaro out for a cruise the other day and something did not feel right.
By the time I got home the trans was slipping pretty bad. Time for a rebuild.
Ordered a kit from Monster transmissions and should be here by wed.
Will be my first trans rebuild. Bought a special tool to compress the springs to aid in taking out the snap rings.
Turned out to be easier to push down with the handle of a hammer and pop out the snap ring.
Now I have a bench full of parts for my giant trans puzzle.
Should be fun. New learning experience.

The rebuilt 700R4 has been in for 2 months now. Had one small problem, it was not locking up. Turned out to be a bad tcc solenoid, which came in the lockup kit I got from Painless. Gave them a call and they shipped me out a new one. Great customer service.
Now the trans runs great. The overdrive is great on the highway, especially with the 3.73 gears.

very nice. glad to hear the update.
what size/specs did you go with for the converter and trans kit? I am currently pulling mine out because it blew up badly, and having a new one built.. then perhaps this winter I may try to do a rebuild of my blown up one by myself. definitely seems intimidating with all the parts that go inside of them. keeping it a 700r4 setup like you did as well.

I have been thinking about building the next motor for the Camaro. Going back and forth between old school and new school.
Looking through Craigs List last week and my mind was made up for me. An LQ4 for $550 five minutes from my house, after a little negotiating we settled on $400. I think it was a good deal. Everything looks in very good shape. I have a pretty modest goal of 400 to 450hp. Should be attainable without to much trouble. I hope. Early Christmas present.

What are the specs on your tires & wheels, width, back space/offset?
What seats are those?

Those seats are pro car ralleys. BTK has a set in his 79.

The wheels are 8"x 18 & 9.5 x 18.
I think the back space was 4.5 front & 5.5 back.
The seats are Procar Rally seats. I'm really happy with them.
To get the front wheels to fit with no rubbing I had to modify the inner wheels housings. It was needed because I have the car lowered from stock.
