The Jam Rear Seat Mod

(Just thought I’d share my invention and give you guys a write up)
- It’s a very useful mod, but requires some patience.

Items Needed: Tacky Spray, Material of Choice, Magnetic Catch Clips, Razor Blade, Wood and/or Sheet Metal.

1) Mark off two rectangles and sawzall the markings off (discard the cut out plastic pieces).
2) Take out a good portion of the foam out of those areas w/ a razor blade (it's important to keep some foam for back support).
3) Make two boxes (I made them out of wood and used a sheet of metal for the bottom, so that it can handle some flex).
4) Wrap the boxes with material of your choice (I bought black vinyl and used tacky spray to apply the vinyl; works great).
5) Screw the boxes into place by angling the screws from the plastic boards into the box.
6) Finally, wrap two cut out wooden boards w/ the material you chose and mount them w/ hinges. (It's also a good idea to use some magnetic catch clips to keep the doors shut).

You can use the Jam Rear Seat Mod for anything! I usually throw some cold packs and some vitamin waters for long trips. It would also be useful if you needed to hide your valuables from possible theft or items that you don’t want to get caught with.

COOL! You can do it to my car if i ever get a 4th gen. But as a suggestion, they have hinges that will hide inside the door. you can get them in home depot

Edit - im failry sure i have fold down seats too. But this may look dumb on a tan seat

thanks for the good word! and yea you can't really expect to nail it the first time doing it.

EDIT: it really doesn't matter if you have tan seats, you can choose whatever fabric you want.

i was thinking that when you posted this on ls1tech, internal hinges, and re use the material you cut off the seat, you could probably make them blend in almost perfectly

hell yeah! well you can either get internal hinges or hinge them underneath the material. I'll be working on a guys rear seat w/ the same desired look that we currently are talking about, in a couple of weeks, so after it's completed I will surely post up pics of the incognito outcome of the finished product.

Not bad. I built a amp rack in the seat of my 91 Bird back in like 2001. Old ass pic but thats what it looked like...

you can reuse those hinges. they're hinges. they hinge. you would have to make a small recess so the door sits flush. pretty cool though.
