Ac compressor

1983 z28. Originally 305 5 speed 4 barrel carb. Had, and I said had, cruise control and ac from factory. Someone did some outstanding wire cutting under the hood and to be frank I am amazed that it actually runs. ECM is gone under dash also. Air was removed and I have almost everything to re-install, but cannot for the life of me find the power wire for the compressor anywhere on what is left of the wiring harness. I have a ground wire cut at the cruise control that I guess went on the one end of plug. Most of the hvac wiring is intact. Looked on the drivers side and passenger side with no luck. Picture in shop manual shows it branching off behind the distributor. No luck there either. Have done wiring before, but by far not an expert on subject. Can anyone give a clue as to where to look or possibly rewire the compressor to make it work? I tried tracing the diagram from factory and cannot locate. Thanks in advance.

Hate to say it, but this board is so dead that you'll be lucky to get any kind of response. I put in a word to a buddy of mine to take a peep and maybe he can help you. He's pretty handy with 3rd gens.

There are also links in this very sub forum to all 3rd Gen. Wiring diagrams.

Thanks to all that posted. At this point I will take all and any help available. I was under the hood all day yesterday to no avail. It seems like 2 steps forward and 3 back. People that destroy cars like this should not be allowed to own them in the first place.
