TH350 vs 700R4

Did the square bodies ever come with a 700 in them?

Are the 350 and the 700 comparable in terms of strength? My friends 85 square has a TH350 in it and it does a weird thing with the 3-2 shift when you're trying to accelerate. It might be partly because of the fuel or timing with the Holley Avenger, but no OD sucks and I am trying to convince him to put a 700 in it. Free trans from my 91 Formula. Any reason he/we shouldn't do that? He isn't going to tow much, if anything ever
