header problem
i have clearance issues between my drivers header and my streering column. i have hard time steering and i checked the headers placement and it's fine and bolted downcorrectly and tightly. i just dont have clearance ?!

Many sets of headers have this problem. Pretty much the only fix is to try dimpling it with a hammer and a round bar....this will give you the most "even" dent.
You might also want to try polygraphite motor mounts. I gained enough clearance out of mine so that I don't really have any clearance issues with my new headers.

yeah my friend has a 99 v6 and he never had this issue ? the year isn't a player in this, is it? also, id need to remove the header to bang a dimple into it, correct?

Is the interference near the "rag joint"? There is a rag joint eliminator that helps with some header installs - but I'm not familiar with the details of the V6 setup. There is also a "pinned" connection in the steering shaft that can be loosened up by driving the shear pins out of it, making the length of the shaft slightly longer if required. That again has worked with some LT1 headers.... not sure about your setup.

I had to remove the tabs at the joint to clear my Mac headers?

See the two white dots on the lower 1/2 of the flex coupling? I believe that those are the shear pins. If you drill those out, it allows you to slip the lower 1/2 of the coupling a little bit off the lower shaft, making more clearance. I've never done it, but I've heard of a couple people doing it that way.
You might need to drill and tap a set screw into the coupling, to insure it doesn't slide on the shaft.

I vote for the BFH mod. I don't like messing with steering components.

eh...when i did the headers on my s-10 the steering shaft went in between a header tube like a hotdog in a hole I ended up cutting off a little over an inch of the shaft to get it to go in correctly.
