We have met the enemy, and he is us. Be honest with yourself: Is that rock-bottom price from some niche vendor on eBay.com or Alibaba.com really legit? “If the pricing is 20–80-percent cheaper than the going rate for a particular product, it’s most likely counterfeit,” claims Auto Meter President Jeff King.

****in nuts. Guess I'll be going through summit or jegs for my stuff now. Sucks for them if you use their price match feature and its for a knockoff. I'm sure they are taking measures to prevent abuse from that.

good to know. All bolts for my winter engine build will be from GM or summit, and I'll still check them.

For fasteners on critical stuff it's worth the extra $ for stuff you are sure about.
That's a bolt I bought via a non-mainstream parts house for my steering knuckle. It holds the two piece spindle together. Turns out it's an ungraded bolt sourced from Asia.

Huge issue with COTS both in civilian and military aspects, the DOD is having trouble making sure they get non chinese crap these days. Kinda scary when you think of the stuff you normally rely on every day and not knowing if it was assembled from sub standard crap from overseas...
