factory 12 disc changer

i just got a factory 12 disc changer off a member on here and i just had a question that maybe someone could answer for me. it might sound stupid but why wouldnt the cds in the changer be registering with the radio? i have the cd changer plugged in along with both plugs in the back of the radio. when i put the cd in the changer i can hear it shuffling through the different trays but nothing happens after that.
