Paint job for 91 Camaro RS

I recently acquired a 91 RS for my girlfriends son. When the car comes in im going to sand and primer body. I will then edge doors, hatch and hood. Does anybody know some one who would shoot the car in black for about $400 bucks. Looking for a 5 foot paint job and NO ORANGE PEEL.

No offense dude but the only place that can do that is macco and you'll have a bunch of orange peel. To buy even semi decent materials would cost over $400. Best bet if you have the room is to probably do it yourself or at least do the prep work and have macco spray it.

I am doing all the prep work as I stated above and believe me if I had a workable garage area I never would've posted this. Body work, primer and painting the door jambs, hatch, hood and t-top areas will be complete before it goes in. I'm willing to go to 600 if that what it takes to get a decent quality paint job. Maaco it is I guess.........

Check out the Maaco down in Pottstown, PA. My buddy went to school at UTI down in that area and one day I swung by that Maaco and the man takes pride in his work. He showed me a 3rd gen T/A that he painted white and the only flaw was the rear wing; it looked like the owner didn't properly remove all the wax off of it when prepping it. It was one of his $400 paint jobs, no orange peel and no running paint.
He did explain to me that the paint on the cheaper sprays isn't a high quality but it looked good. He has 25+ years of experience and he was a very nice man.

(Not to mention he has a pro-touring AC Cobra)

Thanks for the heads up on that Maaco. Pro-Touring AC Cobra??? Damn he's got to be good. The paint ain't gotta last forever. 2 to 3 years is all I'm looking for.

*scratches the head a few times*.. The clear for my car with the hardener was over 400 dollars.. I still got orange peel. You can't help it.

Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the note on Saddle Brook Maaco. I'll check it out. You got pics of the paint job? I would really appreciate it. Just want it done right ya know? It's his first car and I want him to take pride in the appearance of his car. The nicer it looks the better care he will take of it. He's currently in training to become somewhat mechanically inclined.

Unfortunately having it done right and done cheap do not go together. When I paint a car I usually have close to $2k in materials alone. You need almost a full day to mask and paint a car after all the prep work is done. Oh and if you don't want orange peel you'll need to wetsand and buff....probably another 30-40 hours to do properly.

For a first car I wouldn't go with an all out paint job but if you want something presentable and durable you should realistically plan on spending close to $5k.

I only paid $1600 for the car so a 5K paint job is so out of the question. Now if it was my Firehawk then it would warrant a expensive paint job.I had a 3K paint job done on my 94 GMC pickup and it came out perfect and after 5 years still looked like new. Guess it depends on the shop as far as quality and price.

i got their 'presidential' package and had a half off coupon for a special they were running in may. they only painted the blue (maui blue metallic) as it was faded, the silver GFX were fine. i filled a few dings and sanded out the cracked up paint on the front bumper.

maaco will be fine for what you want. Make sure they spray it in base/clear and not just single stage though. single stage would save money but doesnt hold up as good. there is going to be paint defects but if you do the prep your self you wont have to worry about it peeling and any dirt and orange peel can be sanded and buffed out. just be preparred to sand and buff... even the best of painters get dirt and orange peel they its impossible to have iet like glass everytime...

He races it on those road courses if I remember correctly and he is also an instructor for those courses. I believe it was a stroked 351 with aftermarket heads, I know he had mentioned the suspension was set up for handling, and he drove the car to work often when it was nice out. It was a kit car that he had started to build years ago. He will defiantly be painting my car when I'm all done building it. Pretty sure he said prep/single stage was $800-900.
