Oil Changes - Modern Car
2014 Cruze, diesel. Book says its like a 7500mile interval.
Question is, do I use the oil life monitor or the 7500 mark?

I would gauge it off of both, most recommend at 10-15% and that can account for driving style/idle time.

I go by mileage/age and whatever the owner's manual says. I never trust those "oil life" monitors lol

I usually do it around 5-10%, but I could go longer I bet since I use Mobile Super 3000 XE low saps. I believe the OLM is set for 7,500 miles regardless, so consider it more of a timer than actual "life" remaining. The fuel filter is the same, programmed to 1000 gallons. The only real way to know is sending a sample to a lab for analysis. Some guys have gone 10k between changes with sufficient life left in the oil. I think the Delco filters are good for 15k.

I usually go by mileage and not the OLM but for the G8, I actually did simply wait until the light went on. That car took almost 9 quarts of synthetic so I figured following the OLM was fine. For the Lex, I've done it every 5k with synthetic and we are around 188k now.....

Yes, I get it from my local dealer along with a filter. I could shop it out but it's easier to just swing by. I have yet to see any retailer carry DEXOS2 (blue logo) approved oil.

I don't rack up a lot of miles on the Silverado so I've been doing a yearly oil change in the fall.
