take a look at these: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...ku&Ns=P_Rank|0

Edit: Also heard GTO spare's make for a pretty nice rim to use as a 17 inch skinnie.

Summit has the skinnies that fit on GTO spare wheels.

Out of curiosity, how fast do you have to go before there is some kind of SFI requirement on the wheels?

Nothing in the General section at least. I know you are NOT allowed to use spare TIRES on the track, but the rims don't seem to be an issue.

Mini-spares have max MPH printed right on them, they should be banned.

I went down this road already. Bought a set of the 5 spoke GTO spares, ditched the tires and put M&H skinnies on the rims, with metal valve stems. Be warned, the GTO spares have the words "TEMPORARY USE ONLY" cast into them. Some tracks probably won't say anything (ATCO), other tracks might not let you run on them (Island??, they have a pretty thorough tech). The M&H skinnies are not cheap, probably about $320 for the set. The GTO spares aren't freebies either. I took the time to grind all identifying marks off the wheels (the Temporary Use only working, GM casting and part numbers etc), filled the grind marks, sanded, repainted them and used them at ATCO for one session. The look like crap on our cars unless you start playing with spacers and such. I wouldn't drive on a public road for any distance with them. In my opinion the GTO spare/with the factory tire has no place on a dragstrip and the with the M&H tire is only marginally better. If I had to do it all over again, I'd save the money and my a set of CCW's. At least then you know you are safe. FWIW the GTO spare/MH tire combo is about 15-18lbs lighter per side (maybe more) compared to my WS6 wheel/275/40/17 tire combo if I remember corrrectly.

Here's a few pics of my car with the GTO spares at ATCO......

My 2 cents

thanks man. they do look really weird. i am looking at narrowing 17 inch stockers so it should look pretty good. any recommendations on tires then? it seems rather limited. i'm going to look around on vette boards some more now.

At the time I bought the tires, M&H was the only manufacturer that made a true drag skinny for a 17" rim. There may be more options now? The narrowed stock wheel is real good idea, kinda middle of the road on price and stealthy also.

Yes it is. All spares like that are just small rims with crap tires, this one just happens to be big enough to clear bigger brakes.
