So my dad is getting a C6....
yes, you heard me. my dad is going from his grandpa car '02 Lexus LS430 to a new 6 speed C6. not sure if it will be the regular flavor or a Z06 variant (i've been talking him out of Z06 because 500 horsies is intense as shiat and the markup is INSANE), but it is pretty certain he will have a C6 of some kind in the garage in the very near future.
what kinda **** should he get for it? i think i'm gonna talk him into a Magnaflow exhaust. do the C6's have the uber annoying skip-shift?i'll be switching the fluids to Mobil 1 synthetics after break-in. any remarks? |
 you're talking him out of a z06? wtf
|
dont vettes come with mobil 1?

for someone like him who drives fast but has never had a seriously fast car like this, my motive is the safety of himself and others. it's going to take some getting used to all that torque , and if you're not careful you can easily wrap one of these things around a tree. |
Vettes come with Mobil 1 from the factory....
Nice either way, stock C6 is still fast, and easily upgradable. - Justin |

Cause Mobile 1 is the best! And yes, C6's come with Mobile 1 from the factory.
Anyway, the new Z06 isnt just a "427 SBC" in a C6. Its a race car with licence plates. They went a lot farther with this car then the last generation. The new Z06 closely mirrors the C6R race car and they share a lot of the parts. Its a sick car no doubt, and an extra 50k? Maybe 20k if you load it up nice, but base Z06 starts at 68.5k. Thats a Ferrari Killing, Ford GT Toasting, Viper-Whatting 505hp Carbon Fiber Corvette...for 68.5k. I will agree with you also that your father is probably best suited for the regular C6, and if he wants to get a little crazy, he can opt for the Z51 package where he will get larger cross drilled rotors and a different geared 6spd manual to reach the top speed of 186mph. Its almost exactly like the last generation Z06. Put a new set of rubbers on there, and you are lapping with the best of them. Dont mod it at all at first, just put a new set of tires on it and take care of it. Thoes run flat goodyears suck dick. Also remember that this year the C6 gets an optional 6spd automatic with paddle shifters. Might wana look into that. 8) |

I'm aware that the Z06 is a street legal race car. i just think it's overkill for what my dad probably wants/needs. for the average driver, a 11 sec vette is pretty intense. another thing that worries me is that the 427 is indeed sharing many parts with the C6R motor...the C6R motor doesn't have to run for all that long. i.e., it gets rebuilt often. i have a feeling that the 427's will fail before long as well. it's the price of owning a high-strung engine. i'm in daytona beach FL for college right now, i'm coming home for halloween weekend. we're gonna look at and most likely test drive a couple different vettes, test the different suspension packages, etc etc., see what my pop likes. BTW Al...6 on the floor is the only way to roll 8) |

You are telling me that the handbuilt, dry sumped oiled engine could possibly give you troubles? Possible....but not probable. And if so, would be a hell of a lot cheaper to fix compared to engines in the cars that the Z06 runs with. But yes, if you father is looking for a true performing street car, the C6 Z51 is the one for you. 6spd manual is standard, and you can load that bad boy up with DVD navi, heated and cooled seats, and lets also not forget about the HUD and On Star. |

Because a six speed is so great. ;p
Either way, getting a 6th gen vette is gonna be cool |

The new 6spd auto in the GM cars have a very very fast 32 bit computer that is as fast as any SMG or F1 car.
There are paddles, and you can shift with them, therefor the car is paddle shifted. Only thing is that in instances like the DSG in the VW's that have a dual clutch set up, where the 6spd auto in the GM cars are a traditonal automatic with electronic controls. Even my Maxx shifts very fast with the little +/- button. |
