You want to run OTVC or just regular stock looms? If anything above the stock ones, I really like the MSD make you own kit. Some big wires and like 10 feet of it too. For spark plugs, a lot of guys run the NGKs, not sure what number though. Those or autolite 104s I believe.

okay, cu i really want to get this done tomorrow or tuesday because im going up to sussex on sat for the car show and i need to change the oil and just tune it up. how much do you think it would be to have the plugs and wires installed at a place?

If you find a reasonable shop, shouldn't be that bad, but I have heard people get quotes over a couple hundred.

Tru2Chevy 09-14-2008 10:18 PM

Yea, depends on the shop. LT1 plugs / wires shouldn't be nearly as bad if it's tossed up on a lift.

or you are replacing the stock manifolds. i like the msd wires. plugs don't really matter to much to me but i think i used NGK's. pending how long it has been since it was tuned up, the plugs could be a heck of a time coming out. routing the wires on the passenger side sucks. they go under the alternator.

Either MSD or Taylor wires and NGK plugs. I'm not a big fan of platinum plugs so I switch to the NGK. Get a quote in wiriting if you take it to a shop. I think the service manual says 4+ hours to do plugs and wires. I would bet a shop will want $400 plus for the parts and to do the job.

See this is why someone made longtubes and alternator relocation brackets....

WildBillyT 09-15-2008 09:16 AM

I would run MSD or Magnecore wires and NGK or Autolite plugs.

i need to wait a little bit because i called up today a couple of shops and its like 400 + parts to do it so its like a 500 dollar job:cry:

btw if anyone is interested im starting a jim's car fund:lol:

Oh come on folks, all you need is wires, plugs, 1,000 zip ties, 4,000 bandaids and a 2-3 pints of blood!

Until I switched to the supercharger I always ran the Boosh Plat+4 plugs with zero problems. THe GM plugs have a puck that tends to fall off!

I run the Accel 300+ wires kit for the LT1s. They are 8mm and will fit into the stock loops with little modification. If you want a thicker wire then you are going to have to go OVC and some of the kits are a real PITA to install, specially if you have traction control.

I've seen two type, one kits runs the wires along side the valve cover using mounting plates that connect to the head. Nice clean install, but getting the mounts connected will exhaust all your curse words! The other kits mount to the vavle cover bolts, must easier, but I don't perfer the look, but that's just me!

If you change the wires/plugs yourself plan at least one full day! You need to remove the alternator, starter, oil filter ( sometime air pump ). And getting the wires properly connected in the clips where they wrap around the alternator bracket can be a real pain, but the #7 cylinder has got to be the biggest pain. It goes into a bracket that takes the wire back to the fire wall then hooks back to the plug. Sometimes the stock clips break, so have some zip ties ready!

im a fan of taylor thundervolt wires, and for your car id say AC plugs...no need for anything special there

LTb1ow 09-15-2008 07:42 PM

I have heard that Taylors are crappy, but thats just what I have heard, I used to run Accels and never had any problems until the LTs went on, now I have MSD OTVC and I really like them.

deadtrend1 09-15-2008 08:34 PM

Going Over The Valve Cover is for when you're running headers. I run Ac Delco plugs with Taylor OTVC wires.

JL8Jeff 09-15-2008 09:52 PM

Taylor wires are fine, I've used them on several cars with no problems. I've had Accel and MSD wires fall apart before the Taylors, but they are all on the same level. Just skip the AC platinum plugs because those pucks fall off and the gap gets huge and they are no longer platinum at that point.
