Bluetooth OBD Diagnostic

Been looking at easy ways to display ATF temps, IATs and perhaps a corrected speedo via GPS.

Does anyone have any experience with these things? Their cheap and simple enough, but not sure if they display all the PID or not?

I've actually looked into a few of them and I found mixed reviews and the reason I haven't bought one yet. I was looking at the one to work with "Torque" for the Android OS and most people say the PLX ones work the best, but are the most expensive. There are some in the $15-20 range and some say they work and some don't.

PLX on Amazon

I have the ELM 327 bluetooth with the torque app, it's pretty simplistic but it works well for $12. The speedo is pretty close to actual on the highway, and you can set up a screen of whatever supported PID's you want. Did the car in question come with the trans temp sensor? I don't think you can add additional inputs and create your own PID like in hptuners

The car PCM programmed tire height is not whats on the car, so I want to use a GPS speedo output for actual speed displayed etc.

I am fairly certain the '80e transmissions can display internal temps as the trucks they come in have ATF guages.

Basically not looking to spend a lot cause at that point I will just get an aeroforce gauge but figured this is an easy way to monitor things since the phone never leaves my side anyway. Or pick up an old phone and use for just the bluetooth/screen aspect.

But I thought that stuff kills your phone ;)

thats what i use. its a little slow some monitors with the blue tooth so fuel trims and O2 readings are basically worthless, eventually ill buy a cable. i mainly use it for scanning/clearing codes. i know some diesels it is not compatible with so check the app first.
