Holden Torana Concept
This is from GM Inside News. Enjoy.
Here are pictures of the Holden Torana TT36 concept From the Sydney Auto Show. This car is based on an extended version of the new Kappa platform, which GMI reported on last week. This new platform is rumored to be the possible basis of a Chevy coupe (Camaro?) and a new Pontiac. That leads us to guess this is the "mystery Pontiac", eluded to in the scan of a dealer magazine that GMI published this weekend. The new Pontiac would likely follow the same 4 door formula as the Torana to distance itself from the Solstice and GTO. It is also rumored that this platform will accommodate the GM OHV V8 engine series, which makes things a bit interesting! I bet GMI's article on the 4 door Kappa that got published in Car & Driver makes a lot more sense now.... The Basics- TT36 stands for Twin Turbo 3.6l It will be a 4 door Hatchback 3.6 litre v6 twin turbo 280kw Alloytec was hand built at Holden engine plant in Port Melbourne 6 speed manual Differential Ratios 3.73:1 Brakes Ventilated disk 365 mm front and rear 6 piston front / 4 piston rear wheel / tyre 20" x8" 245/35-20 10 spoke 20 inch alloys Colour is luminous , look at me pink - dubbed ManGenta It is a 4 seater interior is minimalist black and white Seats are 8 way electric The roof is is a panoramic glass roof extends from the steeply naked windscreen all the way to the back hatch. The project was originally called XP54 ,reflecting the acronym eXperomental Project and coded 54 in recognition of holdens so called studio 54 design workshop in out suburbs of Melbourne Sorry for the slight delay, it takes time to download high resolution pictures, resize them, and put our nice professional logo on them. I could have downloaded the low-resolution ones and scribbled our name across them in a teenage fit of passion....but that's not very professional :D http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_002.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_005.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_006.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_011.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_012.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_016.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_017.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_024.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_034.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_035.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_036.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_040.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_042.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_049.jpg http://www.GMInsidenews.com/Torana/T...oncept_050.jpg |

The problem, and therefor the "wtf" is that it doesnt seem that Zeta can get small enough. Its small enough to be GTO or even Monte/Chevelle size....but not Camaro size. Now, from what I understand, this is how it went down behind the GM curtain. Holden entered there mid sized SWB Zeta RWD chassis into a contest, and GM NA offerd this kappa-based RWD chassis.....Holden lost. Now, this seems to go along the lines of insider news that GMI broke about 2 months ago that Pontiac was going to bring a sedan based off Kappa. This Torana would be a great car for Pontiac's line up. If the Camaro were to be made off this mild-kappa car, it will probably be made in Delaware. It would be a nice "class trip" if all of us NJFBOA members took a little tour, or even we could be there during the opening! This Torana car has now opened up many, and IMO new doors. Now that its here, there are now more questions then answers. -If Pontiac gets this. what will happen to the G6? -Could this replace the Saab 9-3 as a true RWD sedan? -If thoes 2 are true, what will become of Epsilon, the chassis now used for both the 9-3 and G6 as well as the updated version coming in 4 yrs? -If this is the Camaro..what is this Chevy coupe that is going to be built on Zeta? -Will this bring a Firebird? -Will this bring a smaller Caddy? -Could this replace the CTS as more of a true 3 series compeditor? -Could this give Caddy a good chassis to make a smaller sedan for Europe and China? -How soon can this be brought to production? There are some more questions, but it involves some insider knowlage. Anyway, Its good to see that GM is serious about RWD performance. GM now has Sigma, Zeta, Kappa, and now this, which at the present time has no true name. News is that this chassis has been in development, and is now getting the fast track to production. |
if they use that platform for the Camaro, it had better look different than that.
