They can be race motors, they are 305's in early camaros in stock eliminator going 10.90's. Given they arent the stock off the shelf engine, but they can be made to perform.

It might not be a terrible swap to just put a different subframe in the car.

Bonzo, you know that for certain, did you look up in the frame? Its pretty easy to do when you are putting the springs in to have one that isnt seated.
