i think your best bet would be to just replace the wires that are damaged with new ones. just cut out the burn ones, solder in some new wire and then heat shrink the solder. i think that would be alot easier than replacing the whole harness.

i dont blame to for calling the fire department. id rather be safe than sorry.

Yeah just replace the parts of the harness that are burned out, or replace the entire harness if you're unsure what else was damaged.

Unfortunately there's nothing easy about replacing wire harnesses, especially if the parts you need to replace run through the firewall. Also check all the sensors to make sure they weren't damaged in the fire. If so DONT FORGET to put a drain pan below the block before you start yanking sensors. On a third gen, the temp sensor sending unit is (at least on late third gens) on the driver side above the axle, so not easy to get to. Check everything you can.

Thats rough you had the fire. At least you don't have to worry about getting a ride to work every day.

matt, this may be your chance to switch over to a regular carb and get rid of the electronic quardajet. you'll most likely have to chnage the distributor as well though, but once thats swapped over, 90% of what lookes to be damaged is no longer used, just an idea.

now that you have two more unrealistic conclusions in mind.....
did you think about just looking at the wiring and seeing if it can be cut/spliced and repaired?
