Website Done, but Pics Won't Display??

I finished up my website and uploaded it onto my old fraterny server for now. Only problem is all my pics are coming up as red x's.

I used Front Page to make the site and Globalscape Cute FTP to load it up. Anyone know why the pics aren't coming up? I don't really want to post the site here for everyone to see yet until my pics are working so if you can help but need to see it then PM me for the address.

Couple possibilties: Â*Are the pictures hosted on the server? Â*If yes, you need to make sure the path that FrontPage gave them is where they reside on the server. Â*So for instance, if your site is in a folder called "HardcoreZ28", then in the path for each picture it would need to be "/HardcoreZ28/filename.jpg," with before the first "/" being any other folders that your folder is in.

If it's neither of these problems, then I'll take a look and see what I can come up with.

*edit* thinking about it now, you may not need the "HardcoreZ28" if that's where your index is...but if you have a new folder for the pics within the parent folder, then you would need "pics/filename.jpg."

i know it may seem like a pain in the ass to most programmers, but i have always used the complete address whenever calling a function or linking a picture
Code:
http://www.myserver.com/pic_directory/pic.jpg
it just makes more sense, it's more portable (you can move it from one server to another, just changing the name of the server using Find&Replace in any editor) and it leads to fewer problems. the only time i won't use the complete address is when the pic or link is in the exact same directory and it will always be like that.

cutting corners is not the same as a shortcut...

Even if its indexed as the main page, I usually put the whole URL in anyways. That way I know there wont be a problem.

I'd have to actually rename all the pictures that way to do it like that. In FrontPage inserting pics is just like inserting one into a Word document. I'm going to try and redo the index page during lunch with a few ideas and see if it works. If so I'll be up late tonight finishing the rest.

it looks like your server just isnt giving permission to look at the pics for whatever reason...they are probably in the right spot but its saying permission denied

Possibly, but one of the other guys I know on the server isn't having a problem displaying pictures.

Are all of the pictures loaded onto the server as well? Or did you just upload your index.html?

PM me the address....

Looks like a permissions issue. None of the pics can be viewed by themselves either.

Open CuteFTP and log onto your server, then take a screen shot of the folder that contains your pics. Send that to me, and I'll see what your permissions look loike.

ok so my idea of putting all the pics in one folder and creating a new index using only pics from that folder didn't work either.

I changed my index file name to Index so now you can just go on there and see all the uploaded files.

Justin, Koll, Foff, 79 CamaroDiva, etc. let me know if you guys have any other ideas.

The public has no access to your images. They are probably only given owners rights. That's what I (we) need a screen shot of the FTP window for, it shows permissions.

I didn't see anything that showed permissions but I'll get a screen shot tonight. How do I get a screen shot by the way? Hopefully I'll have it posted by 7 or earlier.

To take a screen shot, get the stuff on the screen you want the shot of, click the Print Screen button on your keybaord. Open a new file in Photoshop or whatever, ctrl+v, and your screen is now the picture. Crop it if necessary, then save as a .jpg. Upload it to a server to email it or whatever.

what do you mean you dont have a server to upload it to? upload it to your websites server

EDIT: nevermind.. after 30 seconds of contemplation of this.. I realized that that is the whole problem, not being able to view pictures off your server.....
