collectors insurance in jersey
I accidentally let my insurance lapse on my 79, i had it through Hagerty, and since it was 2 days late they made me re apply, and upon submission, they turned me down, because my car isnt 'show quality,' and the lady couldnt tell me why they accepted it last year but not this year. Sooo, now i need to find new collectors insurance in jersey. I just tried Grundy, but ya gotta be 25. I'm 22. Any other companies out there? I might just see if maybe i have to reword some of my application to Hagerty and re submit.

Insurance and registration are two different things. My car is registered as historic (QQ plates) and thats why it doesnt need to go through inspection. Classic insurance doesnt have anything to do with inspection, thats all registration. Theoretically, i COULD insure it with my other company, but itll cost an arm and a leg.

okay heres the deal, youre right that you have to be 25, however what you can do, as I had to do in my case, is put the car in my dads name, along with the insurance, from there with Hagerty, he can place you as a secondary driver (him being the primary) and whomever else he wants to let drive the car. They will then accept it, and boom you are allowed to drive your car and you are covered under the insurance policy. Problem is, QQ tags are not allowed to anyone under 25 (if you know ways around it please let me know) which means inspection is a must. Therefor you must get collectors registration which you take to the DMV and they check that your speedometer and odometer work, also sometimes if you have decent tread and mufflers on the car (Which is no big deal, but I still havent done that). Anything else goes! If you have any more questions let me know, Insurance is CHEAP like that too, but you are limited to under 5000 miles a year. Thats ALOT of 1/4 mile passes Let me know!

I didnt know anything about being 25 to get the QQ plates... as far as I know the only thing is the CAR has to be 25. I picked mine up, in my name, last year when i was still 21. I was also covered under Hagerty on my own policy. The more I think about it, I think I worded some of the stuff wrong. I didnt know 'dates of completion' for some of the stuff and didnt want to wing it, so I didnt put anything. I guess they took that as the car is finished. I guess I'll be calling them again, since they seem to be the only company that is under 25 friendly.

Try MK Insurance I know they do a lot of the big dogs like Yenkos, COPOs, etc. There's also American Collectors which I think is based out of Cherry Hill or something. But they were tougher than Hagerty. Most companies want the car to be 90% restored or more so you might have been lucky last year depending on the condition of your car.

I was looking into this a few weeks ago for my '87. It seemed that any company that would take me (being 23) wouldn't take the car, and any company that would take the car wouldn't take me. Blah....
