Cupholder:seating ratio

im just amazed that some cars have more cupholders then seats...i heard the std. cab 3 seater prerunner has 9 cupholders...the new solstice has 3...and the new miata has 4 wtf do you need 3 cupholders in a two seater for? Or 4 for that matter? Anyone seen a higher ratio then the prerunners 3:1?

97+ have a hidden "fold out" cupholder on the right side of the console and two in the back seat(all attached to the center console)

i got 4 in the EVO, 2 in the armrest in the back that work really well, and 2 in the front center console, but I can only really use 1 because it'll get in the way of shifts. My fatehers 97 Bonnie has 5, 1 per front door, and 3 in the center console-2 for the back and 1 in the front.

as for using more than one cupholder at a time, i've always needed more than one. for longer drives i bring a cup of coffee in a travel mug and a bottle of water or gatorade. and of course my wife always has junk in the cupholders. i keep trying to tell her that they are not supplemental storage but actually do come in handy for the occasional cup - which is everytime i get in her car.

the '69 has zero. the '87 has one, it's an aftermarket job that attaches with velcro so you can pull it up for cleaning.
