drove my car for the first time in a year

as stated above tonight was the first time i drive it in a year. it now wears the new paint and one bad ass motor. im having a problem with is getting kinda hot but hopefully i will be able to sort that out soon. im open to suggestion.but for the most part it felt really good to drive it again. the new motor is going to take alittle getting used to. i didn't beat on it because, well to be honest with you, im still alittle afraid of it. sorry to waist your time i just had to tell someone. ive been witing a long time.

thats always exciting, driving your car after a long hiatus. that motor is definitly a beast, I'd be scared of it too!

As for the over-heating problem, what kind of radiator and cooling fan setup are you using? Did you get all the air out of the system? It could just be running hot because its making a lot more power than a stock engine would. Give us a few more details about the cooling system and the motor and I'm sure one of us will come up with a gameplan .

Oh yeah, drive it like you hate it!

Congrats man. That's somethng that many of us have wanted to do for a long time. All that hard work (and money!) will hopefully pay you back for more than a cruise or two. Im in the same boat as Ted - hopefully have mine up and running in a few weeks, for the first time in many months (and the first time I will ever have driven it).

Still have plenty of warm days ahead to enjoy.

In most cases the engine will run cooler after it is broken in, if there are no other cooling issues.
That is a helluva engine. 434 has a nice ring to it when ya put it next to the all too common "350 and 383." I spend many moments pondering if one of those should be in my future. 8)

I may be one of the few, I honestly dont know how many people use him, but I didn't have any luck with shafiroff. A few people i know call him shaftiroff, but I wish you lots of luck with them, maybe your experience will be better.

I drove for a guy that bought a motor from him, Scott sold him a dyno mule for full price. This rod came out of the oil pan at 1000' (around 130 mph)

That was the worst ride of my life... since then I wont recommend them, however, like i said before, I wish you the best with it.

i have some specs on my cooling system. i have a 2 row aluminum radiator(cant remember wich company), brand new aluminum water pump, 160 thermostat, and two 11 inch be-cool fan in a built in shrould. the fans are rated at 2750cfms. that should be plenty. i also installed an autometer water temp gauge with the sending unit in the intake manifold. im not sure how accurate it is because a couple of night ago my friend brought over his lazer heat gun and the gauge was reading about 20* hotter that the sending unit was. the factory gauge was telling me that it was running about 150*, but i know that gauge is way off. im kinda thinking that there might be some air stuck in there, because those fans should be enough to cool that motor.

im not going to be able to go cruizing just yet. with this motor my 2 1/2 inch cowl hood does not close. so now i have to get a 4 inch cowl hood. i plan on going to the indian hills high school show this saturday. so if you want to check it out just stop buy, i should be there.

79CamaroDiva i cant believe that. you are the first person that i have heard a bad thing about scott. i did alot of research about this company and everyone had nothing but great things to say about him. as for my motor, the deal was done through a friend of a friend of a friend. so that friend made sure that my motor but together even more anally that any other one. which makes me pretty confident in this motor. sorry to hear about your eperiances with them, but at least you are ok. i bet that was a sight to see.

selling a dyno mule at full price is a pretty crappy thing to do, but then again, it was their choice to buy it. I've heard nothing but great things about shafiroff, seems to be a very reputable builder. No one is ever going to be able to build all their motors and not have a few failures though. Its just a matter of who fails the least

yeah man, the first time you get your car out and on the road is the best feeling in the world. Also one of the scariest times ever too. I left my driveway wondering if i would ever return. LOL
Later
