Damn, I didn't know he went through 3 M5s. I'm kinda surprised at the 700 though, doesn't he build them for a living?

it was some pin that keeps shearing off...i dont think theres much he can do in the situation other then build a 400 which I think he's doing soon for it.

If you're looking for opinions Tim, I would vote for the truck. You already have the f-body to work on. Get something that is practical, but isn't a gas hog - well, something better than 10mpg.
Depending on how often you have people in your car, you might consider a crew cab.

Like you said, nothing fancy, but will do what you need it to do.

Then get back to work on the Camaro.

The m5's were notorious for being week ( as are the chrysler/dodge's m5's). Because of how the 700 operates, the band anchor pins take a lot of abuse when shifting to 2nd and 4th. Add 5000lbs and in upwards of 600 horse, and you're asking for trouble. I knew going into this deal that the 700r4 would probably not be able to handle what I was going to throw at it. I was hoping that using the best of the best parts would make it strong enough to handle the power and weight, but obviously it can't. ANYHOW, I said hemi's were gay, not the transmissions that backed them ( although if you go on any hemi boards you'll see that trannies and rears are breaking at an astounding rate). And for the record ( ask Justin) I'm still driving it even with the sheared pin and gaurantee I'll kill any hemi junker even in it's current state!!! Thank you, that is all

Dave, I think just throwing a rev at any "new hemi" on the road would be enought to scare them away....that thing sounds badass!

my only thing against him getting a truck is gas mileage...he likes to go here & there to events, meets & whatever...not to mention his work is rarely near his home...getting 10-15mpg in a full size truck whether new or old IMO wouldnt be his best option...personally if I were in his position & knew a full out race car was a couple of years away I'd get a decent gas mileage beater like kelly's hyundai...probably gets 25-30mpg and isnt horrible to look at & drive every day for a couple of years & its something that could be had for less then 5 grand meaning either a very short term loan or if he had the $ saved up he could pay for it outright & go from there...I dont personally think he needs a truck but im not him nor am I in his shoes so i dunno what he needs.

A truck is always handy to have, but I agree with Bill when it comes to practicality. He put ~15k miles on the Alero in 8 months, and doing that in a truck would have cost about double at the gas pump. IIRC the Alero knocked down over 30mpg on a regular basis.
