Suspension hearing results
So I had my "prehearing conference" at the Wayne DMV this morning... first some background for those of you who dont know
New law says if you get 2 or more violations totalling 4 or more points in the first 2 years of drivng you have to go to a DMV class, this class removes 3 points and puts you on probation for one year. I was told in the class that this probation meant that you can't get any points... well that cop lied, as I found out.
5 months after that class... April 6, going home one day from school to get stuff, guy in bergenfiled stops short for a left turn, I dont have enough time to stop, BAM rear end him. Jersey law put me at fault by default, I get a careless driving ticket. Go to court and gt it reduced to a 0 point unsafe driving, think I'm fine, then the DMV says that probation was for any violation, nd because it was less than 6 months from the class I have a 90 day suspension. I said **** that I am going to try to fight it cuz hey, it can't hurt. Got the hearing date postponed so I could drive during the summer lol, that brings us to today.
I told the DMV caseworker what happened, she asked me about the ticket/accident, college and stuff, then said "well the purpose of this prehearing conference is to try to resolve the matter, otherwise it goes to court and a judge. Here's what I'll do: 20 day suspension instead, and when your license is restored ($100 fee) you will be on probation for a year." I say I won't push my luck and 20 days really isn't too long, so agree to it, beginning on the 17th so I can move everything into school, and so I can get it back the weekend right before my birthday. Won't be too bad since I'll be in school that whole time. Sooo yea that worked out relatively well.
