No Power from 2500-4000rpms!

When I am driving and I bringing the RPM's up to 2,500 to accelerate the car back fires, sputters, and takes a nose dive. Could it be Opti related or maybe even the mass air sensor? I had the mass air sensor out on Saturday but I set it aside from all the work I was doing and all I did was ripe the screen with a paper towl and blew some air in there with an air can. The car ran fine though on Sunday and i only started to notice it on Monday. The car is fine at idle and low RPM cruising speeds but when you try to get some power it does nothing! Its kinda dangerous especially in such a low power band. When the car is sitting in Neutral and I rev it I don't get that loss of power, it seems to go fluently through the RPM's.

I tried to order a new MSD Opti kit but its on Indefenite back order or some ********.

Should I swap a good 95 Mass Air unit incase I ****ed something up there?

if you have a MAF laying around (at work maybe) give it a try, cant hurt. when my MAF died my car seemed to have normal power but it would run all ****ed up at high RPM

my car was doing something similair last night.

everytime I was getting out of first and it hit about 2,500 RPMS it would die down feel like its about to stall then catch its self and start up again. It only did it a couple times though not the whole night.

I'm thinking my plugs maybe or could it be my opti?

I took my car out this morning and it seems to be running fine so maybe it was just a freak thing.

Im defenitly leaning towards opti, I almost died trying to accelerate onto the highway the other day. If Im local and I keep the RPM's low its fine but when I try to speed it up it just cant handle it!!!

Well I have absolutely no lights on the dashboard and it has been failing to start lately so Im thinking its defenitly ignition related. Im going to try and get it on the lift next week at work and just slap in one of those Summit OPTI replacements.

Back when i used to have my 96 Z It did that to me while driving, then it moved to not starting randomly ect.. I also notice'd the rpm's would roller coaster while running in park, After all the stuff i replaced on it , it turned out to be a ignition switch under the dash

When my opti went it was doing the same thing. Mine would also just vut out at random times, wether it was at idle or at 75 on the thruway. For about 4 weeks straight every sunday at 3 to 3:10 the car was dead, ended up just being luck that evey sunday at that time i was dirving. Hehe. Alex is it the original opti? If it is u might just want o replace it any for preventative mantaince. I have mass air in my garage if u wanna try that. It was on my car when i bought it but it wasnt pluged in nor could i find where the plug was so i just deleted it.

interesting, i dont know why it would have been there. maybe the previous owner had an aftermarket intake and sold it before he sold the car, and maybe he just put a stock intake from a 94-97 lt1 on there, considering 93 is speed density and never had a MAF, thats why you werent able to find a plug for it.

Yea. That wat i thought. Its gutted too. The screen is gone. The whole intake was pvc pipe and a wasted K&N filter.

Its your opti, mine was doing it a few months back, same symptoms. got the opti off, and you see it was only running on 4, maybe 5 cylinders.

MAF was pretty much the same on many different GM cars and trucks. Any 4th gen MAF will work fine.
